RAIN & STORMS LIKELY ON FRIDAY; MILD WEEKEND AHEAD… Clouds will increase across our region from west to east on this Thursday ahead of rain and a few thunderstorms becoming possible on Friday. The overall risk of severe weather on Friday will remain very low, but perhaps not entirely zero across coastal counties where we could have a brief window when strong storms may happen. The weekend looks cloudy, mild, and unsettled as we go into Sunday. Temperatures will continue to progressively rise until Monday. A cold front will approach on Tuesday, causing temperatures to once again nosedive by the middle part of next week. That’s the summary. Let’s talk details.

SUNNY AT TIMES TODAY; HIGHS NEAR 70°… Mostly sunny skies are in place across the region now, but we will have cloud coverage increasing as we go into the afternoon and evening hours. Little to no rain is expected today, although I can’t completely rule out some sprinkles or brief rain showers tonight across the western part of Alabama, primarily west of the Alabama River. High temperatures will peak in the 68-71° range across the area today.

CONDITIONAL RISK OF STRONG STORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON… Showers will likely increase in number Friday morning ahead of the low-end potential for a few thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening hours. There is some concern that there may be a brief window for the development of a few stronger storms from 10AM to 5PM on Friday. This is the window when a warm front may lift northward across the immediate beach zones into coastal counties. While this isn’t certainly going to occur, it is one potential scenario that we will need to monitor. If the warm front remains offshore, the risk of severe weather would remain at zero. Regardless of the severe weather potential, most spots across the region will have rain at times on Friday. High temps will peak in the upper-60s.

CLOUDY, MILD, WITH RAIN AT TIMES THIS WEEKEND… Clouds will linger into Saturday and Sunday ahead of our next significant rain chance Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. We’ll call it a 10% chance of rain on Saturday and a 30% chance of rain on Sunday as we could have isolated showers around this weekend. Temperatures will be in the 60s each afternoon with morning lows in the upper-40s.
