SUNNY & COOL TODAY; RAIN LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… A cool, dry pattern remains in place across the region on this Thursday. High temperatures will peak in the mid-50s. We’re looking ahead to the weekend when we could have quite a bit of rain around, especially on Saturday. An area of low pressure will move from west to east across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, flinging in quite a bit of moisture into our area. This will pave the way for fairly high rain chances on Saturday and on Sunday. Christmas Day is now in the 7 Day Forecast and temperatures are looking rather mild. That’s the summary, below are your forecast details.

CLOUDS INCREASE FRIDAY; RAIN POSSIBLE FRIDAY NIGHT… Sunshine is the story on this Thursday but clouds will begin to increase across our region from west to east on Friday. I expect rain to hold off until after 9PM Friday for all areas locally. Showers will be possible in the overnight hours and into Saturday morning. Severe weather is not expected.

LOW PRESSURE TO TRACK TO OUR SOUTH… Why all of the rain this weekend? A fairly unusual big upper low pressure area will track from west to east across the Gulf of Mexico and into the Florida Peninsula this weekend. This low will cause ample Gulf moisture to be transported over our region and over Florida and Georgia. Rain amounts across our local area will be in the 1 inch to 3 inch range in total over the next few days. Most spots are still running a rainfall deficit for the year, so this will certainly help to alleviate at least some of the deficit.

A BIT WARMER EARLY NEXT WEEK… Temperatures will creep up into the mid-60s for afternoon highs on Monday and Christmas Eve Tuesday. Rain will be possible Monday morning, but we’ll go dry for Monday afternoon and into the middle part of next week.

CHRISTMAS FORECAST PREVIEW… Partly cloudy skies are expected for Christmas Day across south Alabama and northwest Florida. We start the morning in the upper-40s but quickly rise into the 60s by late morning. Afternoon highs will be in the 67-70° range!
