INCREASING CLOUDINESS TODAY; SLIGHTLY WARMER TEMPS… Clouds will be on the increase today ahead of increasing rain chances for Thursday evening into Friday morning. High temperatures on this Wednesday will climb into the mid-50s today. We also will have increasing temperatures for overnight lows. Instead of being below freezing, most spots will settle in the mid-30s by daybreak on Thursday. We will need the rain gear on Thursday as scattered showers will become possible during the afternoon hours with heavier, more consistent rain likely in the evening hours. Rain won’t linger into the weekend, however. Sunny skies are expected Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low-60s. Let’s dive into your forecast details.

LOWS IN THE 30S TONIGHT… No more freezing temperatures, at least for now. Temperatures will be in the 40s this evening, falling to the 34-37° range by dawn on Thursday. Cloud coverage will increase overnight and into Thursday morning.

RAIN RETURNS THURSDAY AFTERNOON… An area of low pressure will approach from the west on Thursday, paving the way for rain chances to steadily increase throughout the day. Scattered showers could happen as early as 11AM across west Alabama. A few showers may in progress through the afternoon hours, but at this point, it certainly seems like the greatest rain chance will happen from 4PM Thursday to 4AM on Friday.

WET THURSDAY EVENING; STORMS TO BE LIMITED… There could be pockets of heavy rain in the evening hours of Thursday. We are NOT expecting any severe weather issues with this system. There is no instability inland and instability values at the immediate coast will be paltry (less than 200 k/kg in most cases). If any thunderstorms happen, they will almost certainly happen at the immediate beach zones. This will be a good, soaking rain. While small rises may happen on area creeks and rivers, we probably won’t have enough rain to cause any significant flooding issues.

RAIN MOVES OUT EARLY FRIDAY… Skies will clear from west to east on Friday morning. We could have a few lingering showers early Friday morning, but I expect all of the rain to be gone no later than 10AM. Clouds will linger into the afternoon hours. There will likely be a few peeks of sunshine before the end of the day.

NICE, SEASONAL WEEKEND UPCOMING… Our weather pattern this weekend will be nice for late January. High temperatures will be in the low-60s with morning lows in the upper-30s. That is pretty much exactly where we should be compared to our normal climatology values for this time of year. Full sunshine is expected each day.
