HARD FREEZE TONIGHT: WIND CHILL VALUES TO BE NEAR 20 DEGREES… The coldest wind chill values of January 2020 are expected overnight with most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida reaching near or just below 20 degrees. The air temperature (what you see on the thermometer) will be in the 24-27 degree range by 6AM Tuesday, but most spots will have a 5-10 mph wind out of the north tonight creating even lower wind chill values. Unfortunately, high temperatures won’t recover much on Tuesday with most spots topping out in the mid- to upper-40s. The pattern begins to break on Wednesday when highs will surge into the 50s ahead of higher rain chances late in the day on Thursday into Friday.

“4 P’S OF COLD WEATHER”… 1) Check on elderly PEOPLE and make sure they have adequate heating sources. 2) Bring outside PETS inside or to an area that will be much warmer than the very cold temperatures. 3) Bring in outdoor potted PLANTS or cover them. Recently planted small trees, scrubs, and bushes outside will need to be covered as well. 4) Wrap PIPES and drip outdoor faucets. Some people add a “5th p” of “practice fire safety,” meaning please be careful if you’re using a space heater inside.

TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE COLD, TOO… We’re expecting another hard freeze Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with overnight lows likely to be in the mid-20s. Fortunately, wind speeds are expected to be a bit lower, thus there won’t be AS cold of a wind chill. It is still going to be QUITE cold tomorrow night, however.

NO SNOW IN THE FORECAST… This is one of our typical, brief cold snaps that we often have in winter across the Deep South. Despite what you may see on social media from the hype monsters, aka fake news sharers, there is no snow or mixed precipitation in the forecast anytime soon for Alabama or northwest Florida. If that changes, I’ll be sure to let you know.
