ISOLATED SHOWERS POSSIBLE TODAY; HEAVY, MORE CONSISTENT RAIN THURSDAY… Clouds will hang tough on this Wednesday and there could be a few isolated showers at times. The more consistent, widespread rain comes on Thursday, however. Heavy rain could happen for several hours Thursday, meaning flash flooding may become a concern. Temperatures today will peak in the mid-60s, but we’re on an overall decreasing trend in the temperature department. Highs on Thursday will be in the 50s ahead of even colder temps for Friday and Saturday. The good news is we get a brief break from the rain Friday and Saturday ahead of more rain becoming possible Sunday into Monday. That’s your forecast summary, below are all of the details.
RAIN CHANCES INCREASE AGAIN TONIGHT… While much of the daytime hours on this Wednesday will be dry in many spots, rain is set to return late this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Temperatures will hold steady around 56-58° this evening. Rain coverage will steadily increase from west to east. I expect much of the rain to hold off until after 9PM.
HEAVY RAIN LIKELY AT TIMES ON THURSDAY… Rain chances on Thursday are in the 90-100% chance range, meaning just about everyone will have rain before the end of the day. There is a chance rain could be heavy at times. This will be a fairly cold, miserable day across the region with temperatures being stuck in the 50s all day. These cooler temperatures will limit any severe weather from happening, however. There is essentially zero risk of any severe storms on Thursday. I can’t rule out a few lightning strikes or claps of thunder, but just like the last few days, any lightning will be more of a fluke than the overall trend.
RAIN CLEARS OUT THURSDAY EVENING; NO SNOW… Rain will exit our region from west to east on Thursday during the late evening hours. Temperatures at that point will be in the mid- to upper-40s, thus there remains no chance of snow or mixed precipitation. It is so typical around here to get precipitation that exits before the cold air can move in behind a front to support snow. We note that there remains NO snow or mixed precip in the forecast guidance over the next 7 to 14 days. If this trend continues into early March, that would mean there is a very high chance we will come through the entire winter without any winter mischief. Keep in mind, that is closer to our normal. We typically get some winter weather once every 2 to 3 years on average.
SUNNY, DRIER CONDITIONS ON FRIDAY… Mostly sunny skies are likely on Friday with high temperatures in the mid-50s. Cloud coverage will decrease throughout the day. Friday and Saturday will be perfect for going out during the evening hours.
TEMPS NEAR FREEZING SATURDAY MORNING… Overnight lows on Saturday morning will be in the 32-35° range across the region. There could be a few spots that have an hour or so at the freezing mark on Saturday morning. This includes places like Thomasville, Beatrice, Hybart, Forest Home, Greenville, Georgiana, Old Texas, Coffeeville, Silas, Toxey, Millry, and surrounding areas.
DRY SATURDAY, RAIN RETURNS SUNDAY… Sunny skies are expected on Saturday with high temperatures rebounding into the upper-50s. Cloud coverage will increase after sunset ahead of higher rain chances on Sunday.
UNSETTLED EARLY NEXT WEEK… Rain will be possible Monday through Wednesday of the upcoming week. It is too early to know whether severe weather issues will be a possibility, but some models have alluded to that idea. We’ll keep you posted in the RedZone Weather app.
