TROPICAL DEPRESSION 8 FORMS IN GULF; TROPICAL STORM WATCH FOR TEXAS… The National Hurricane Center has issued the first advisory for newly formed Tropical Depression Eight, centered 200+ miles south of the Alabama beaches. TD8 is expected to become a tropical storm some time on Thursday. It will take the name “Hanna” and be the earliest recorded “H” name storm in Atlantic basin history. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Port Mansfield to High Island in Texas. Impacts for Alabama and northwest Florida will be limited to rip currents and high waves at local beaches over the next few days. Again, no significant land impacts are expected from TD8/Hanna locally.
GONZALO STRENGTHENS THIS EVENING… The latest advisory for Tropical Storm Gonzalo has maximum winds up to 60 mph with the minimum central pressure down to 998 millibars. Gonzalo continues to strengthen and the system is expected to become a hurricane on Thursday or Friday as it approaches the Lesser Antilles from the east. We note that the forecast cone of uncertainty has shifted just a hair to the north this evening. While TD8/Hanna won’t be an issue for the local area, we will really need to pay close attention to Gonzalo over the next few days.
My next full forecast video will be posted by 7:15AM on Thursday. See you in the morning!
