MORE STORMS TODAY; RAIN CHANCES DECREASE SLIGHTLY FOR WEEKEND… Scattered thunderstorms are likely at times on this Thursday. I expect the overall coverage and intensity of storms to be a bit lower than yesterday, although there could be a few brief, isolated stronger storms this afternoon into this evening. Yesterday, some spots never got out of the 80s due to the long form light rain that continued well into the evening hours. That probably won’t be the case today as storms will likely be more spaced out in nature. High temperatures will again be in the low-90s. Skies will become mostly sunny on Friday into Saturday as we get a brief break in the rain/storm action ahead of higher rain chances returning next week. The tropics also are quiet. Let’s look at all of your forecast details…

INCREASING HEAT THIS WEEKEND… Decreasing rain chances tomorrow and Saturday mean increasing temperatures. Some spots will likely be in the mid- to potentially even the upper-90s on Saturday. Dewpoint temperatures will also be excessively high on Friday into Saturday, meaning heat index values will be in the 105-110° range in the afternoon hours.

BRIEF BREAK FROM HIGHER RAIN CHANCES; MORE RAIN NEXT WEEK… Friday and Saturday still could have a few showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours but most likely we’ll have fewer storms around overall. Rain chances will again become elevated as we get into Sunday and Monday. Fluctuations in rain chances like this are pretty common in the month of July and we’ll continue to have intermittent days with numerous showers and storms around.

NO TROPICAL STORMS OR HURRICANES THIS WEEKEND… The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest that no tropical storms are expected to form across the Atlantic basin (including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea) through the next 5 days. We note that some of the longer range models show a low-level chance of the potential for some tropical mischief in the MDR (main development region) of the Atlantic Ocean (this region is in between Africa and the Lesser Antilles) in 10-14 days. Confidence in that idea is very low, but it is something to watch in the next 2 weeks. Regardless, no tropical issues locally anytime soon. Good news!
