NICE WEATHER THIS WEEKEND; STORMS POSSIBLE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY… Our streak of nice weather days is set to continue today and into Saturday and Sunday. We have a chance of rain and storms setting up for Tuesday into early Wednesday ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday. Some of the storms could be on the strong side, especially across the northern part of Alabama. It remains too early to know if severe storms will be a realistic possibility locally, but there could be a classic “mismatch of severe weather ingredients” that prevents strong storms across our local area. See more details about that in the discussion below.

QUIET WEATHER THROUGH MONDAY… The weekend looks nice! High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-70s on Saturday and Sunday with lows in the 50s. Mostly sunny skies are expected each day. No rain this weekend! Get out and enjoy it.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE BY MIDWEEK… Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across our region late Tuesday into Wednesday of the upcoming week. It is too early to know for sure if strong to severe storms will be possible locally, but that IS a possibility at this point. It appears the greater combination of atmospheric ingredients to support severe weather will likely happen to our north, based on early model trends. We will continue to monitor this developing midweek severe weather potential over the weekend and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.

CLASSIC, COLD SEASON “HIGH SHEAR/LOW CAPE” EVENT… This will probably be the first of many systems like this to happen over the next few weeks and really the next few months as our region transitions into more of a cold season pattern. It is so common to have “high shear, low CAPE/instability” weather events during the cold season locally. This means that *usually,* (not always, but MOST of the time) we have cold fronts that have plenty of shear and wind involved with a lack of atmospheric instability (aka CAPE or convective available potential energy). I cannot stress how common that has been in the cold season months over the last few years. This system is no exception. CAPE will be more limited to the south, with the greater wind values and dynamics of this weather system happening well to our north. This “mismatch” of “severe weather ingredients” is helpful to prevent tornadoes. It remains to be seen how volatile this system will be. We’ll keep you posted in the days ahead.

TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… The Atlantic Basin is quiet. The chances are very low of any new tropical storms forming over the next several days. The National Hurricane Center has highlighted an area in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and The Bahamas that has a low-end (20%) chance of becoming a subtropical storm in the days ahead. No issues from this storm are expected in the Gulf of Mexico, regardless of if formal development happens.

APP… Be sure to download our free RedZone Weather app if you haven’t done so already. redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the app for your iOS or Android device. Once you have the app downloaded, be sure to visit the Alerts tab in the lower right corner of the app to select the specific notifications you would like to receive straight from me.
