NICE WEEKEND AHEAD; THUNDERSTORMS RETURN ON WEDNESDAY… Mostly sunny skies are set to continue into the weekend with slightly warmer temperatures. We are now looking ahead to next week when we could have a round of rain and storms move through potentially right before Thanksgiving on Wednesday. Today is also the first day since October 31 that we have not had an active tropical storm or hurricane in the Atlantic Basin. Iota dissipated, meaning the tropics are quiet for what seems like the first time in quite some time even though it has only been a few weeks since we had a break. High temperatures on this Thursday will be around 70 with overnight lows tonight again expected to be in the 40s. Temperatures will moderate some this weekend as highs approach the mid- to upper-70s by Sunday. Let’s look at your Thursday forecast details.
TROPICS ARE FINALLY QUIET; IOTA DISSIPATES… Tropical Depression Iota completely dissipated yesterday over the high terrain of Central America. This means that for the first time since October 31, we have no active tropical depressions, tropical storms, or hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. The National Hurricane Center has outlined two areas worth watching over the next few days. The first area of concern is located in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. NHC suggests there is only a 10% chance of development (down from a 40% chance earlier this week). Any development would likely be slow to occur, and regardless of what happens with this system, it likely would never be an issue for the Gulf of Mexico. The second highlighted area by NHC is located between The Bahamas and Bermuda in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean. There is a 20% chance a tropical storm could develop and ultimately move out to sea.
GORGEOUS WEEKEND AHEAD… Saturday and Sunday are expected to be dry. While I cannot completely rule out a shower on Sunday evening, vast majority of the local area will remain dry. High temperatures on Saturday and on Sunday will be in the mid- to upper-70s. Overnight lows will be in the 50s.
RAIN & STORMS LIKELY TO RETURN ON WEDNESDAY… A chance of showers and thunderstorms will return to the area late Tuesday into Wednesday as an area of low pressure passes well to our northwest. A trailing frontal boundary will provide the spark needed for a few storms. It is too early to know if severe weather will be a concern, but we are in the middle of secondary tornado season. I would not be surprised if we see a risk of strong to severe storms. This is expected during this time of year and is nothing out of the ordinary. We will keep watching trends this weekend and bring you the very latest in the RedZone Weather app.
