30TH NAMED STORM OF SEASON FORMS: IOTA… Tropical Storm Iota has formed in the central Caribbean Sea on this Friday afternoon. Iota is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as the system moves westward toward Central America. Local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida due to Iota are not expected at this time.
Iota is the 30th (!) named storm of the hyperactive 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Never before in the recorded history of the basin has a season had 30 classified, named storms.
