SUNNY THURSDAY; RAIN RETURNS SATURDAY… Sunshine will be in place for much of the day on this Thursday. Cloud coverage is expected to increase tonight into Friday ahead of an approaching cold front slated to move through our area on Sunday. Rain, and perhaps a few thunderstorms, will become possible this weekend, particularly Saturday afternoon. High temperatures today will be near the 70 degree mark in most spots. A few more forecast details are below.

PARTLY CLOUDY ON FRIDAY… Skies will become partly cloudy on Friday as the overall coverage of clouds increases ahead of the approaching cold front. Temperatures on Friday will start in the low-40s, but we will quickly rebound to the low-70s by 2PM. Rain chances remain very low (<10%) for Friday into Friday night.

SHOWERS BECOME LIKELY SATURDAY AFTERNOON… Rain chances will gradually increase on Saturday from west to east. That means there is a good chance most of us will be dry on Saturday morning, but showers and storms will increase in coverage throughout the day. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the low-70s.

SEVERE WEATHER UNLIKELY THIS WEEKEND… The overall severe weather risk this weekend looks to remain low as surface-based instability will likely be quite low. Lack of CAPE/instability is quite often the limiting factor in these cold season storm systems that pass through our region, and that looks to be the case with this system. There is a chance the Storm Prediction Center may introduce a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) risk before Saturday, but right now, I expect very little in the way of severe weather issues. There could be some lightning and thunder in the heavier showers, but this looks mostly like a rain event. We’ll keep watching trends and let you know if anything changes.

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE SUNDAY… Rain will gradually exit our area on Sunday. Showers will be possible throughout the day and rain will likely come to an end from west to east. High temperatures on Sunday will drop into the 60s. Unfortunately for the snow/winter fans, precipitation will be long gone to the east by the time the much cooler air arrives behind the cold front.

COOLER AIR ARRIVES SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY… Another slew of cooler days is ahead for Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. Winds will shift from out of the north by Sunday night, ushering in cooler, drier, more stable air. High temperatures on Monday will drop into the 50s. Overnight lows by Tuesday morning will likely be near the freezing mark.

UNSETTLED PATTERN NEXT WEEK… Multiple chances of rain appear possible as we get into the latter half of the upcoming week. It is too early for specifics, but the pattern appears to support multiple waves of rain and potentially some storms. We’ll keep watching trends this weekend and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.
