MOSTLY SUNNY TODAY; RAIN & STORMS LIKELY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING… We have another round of rain and maybe a few storms ahead for Wednesday morning, but not before a nice, cool Tuesday. Mostly sunny skies are expected throughout the day ahead of increasing cloud cover after sunset. High temperatures will be in the 59-63° range today across the region. The overall severe weather risk overnight into Wednesday morning remains quite low, but there could be a rumble of thunder or two in areas near the immediate beach zones. Rain will move out Wednesday afternoon, paving the way for dry and cold conditions on Thursday into Friday. More rain and storms will be possible this weekend. All of your Tuesday morning forecast details are below.
FEW SHOWERS TONIGHT… The daytime hours of today are expected to be dry with increasing cloudiness likely after sunset. There could be a shower or two around this evening but overall rain chances through 11PM remain quite low (10-20%). Most of the rain with this passing weather system will happen Wednesday morning.
RAIN AND STORMS AT TIMES ON WEDNESDAY… Rain is in the forecast on Wednesday, particularly in the morning hours. This rain is happening due to a surface low pressure area in the Gulf that will move northeast very near our area. I can’t completely rule out the possibility of a few thunderstorms near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches, but the severe weather risk remains quite low (see more about the risk in the next paragraph). Rain will progressively move out to our east during the afternoon hours of Wednesday. There could even be a few peeks of sunshine late in the day on Wednesday. Highs will be in the low-60s by 2PM.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK ON WEDNESDAY REMAINS LOW… There is a very brief window for a few thunderstorms in areas along and south of Interstate 10 on Wednesday morning. These thunderstorms are expected to be well below severe limits in most cases. Why? Because a brief “tongue” of instability looks to remain mostly offshore in the northern Gulf. This means that storms simply won’t have the abundant fuel to become strong or severe, in most cases. Storms will move by from 1AM to 9AM. There is no severe weather risk inland as long as cool, stable air remains in place, which is expected at this point. I will have radar updates posted overnight as needed in the RedZone Weather app.
COOLER SHOT OF AIR ON THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY… High temperatures will be back in the mid-50s on Thursday as an area of high pressure builds in to our region. That means that mostly sunny skies will likely be in place across our region on Thursday into Friday. Overnight lows on Friday morning will likely be near the freezing mark (32°F) in most spots across the inland part of south Alabama. Friday morning will be the coldest morning of the week. Temperatures will be at or just below freezing for 2-4 hours in many locales.
ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM MOVES BY THIS WEEKEND… Another area of surface low pressure is likely to develop in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday into Saturday and move by our area this weekend. This means that scattered showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours, and into Sunday. Unlike the round of rain slated to happen tomorrow (Wednesday) associated with a cold front, the system this weekend won’t really bring down temperatures as we go into early next week.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK – THIS WEEKEND… Anytime we have a chance of thunderstorms this time of year, it is imperative that we monitor severe weather trends and parameters. Right now, it seems like there could be a few thunderstorms near the immediate coast this weekend but widespread severe weather seems rather unlikely. This is something we will watch over the next few days and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.
APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
See all the details in your Tuesday #rzw forecast video. Have a great day!
Temperatures will still feel chilly today but not AS chilly as yesterday when we had all the clouds around. Highs near 60 on this Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/7FA0KAMbz5
