SHOWERS & STORMS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY; MORE STORMS ON WEDNESDAY… Increasingly cloudy skies are ahead on this Tuesday in addition to a chance of rain and storms later today. High temperatures will rise into the upper-70s this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will be most numerous across inland areas of southwest Alabama locally today. There is a real chance some locales across the region will remain completely dry today. That probably won’t be the story tomorrow, however, as showers and storms become more numerous as a cold front approaches from the north. The Storm Prediction Center has included nearly all of us in south Alabama and northwest Florida in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for Wednesday. Rain and storms exit Wednesday evening ahead of cooler, drier air moving in on Thursday. All of your Tuesday morning forecast notes are below.
RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES ON WEDNESDAY… Chances are high that Wednesday will be our most active weather day of the next 7-10 days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. There is a low-end risk of a few stronger storms (details below). I expect rain and storms to clear out in the late evening hours. High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low-80s.
LOW-END, LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK WEDNESDAY… The Storm Prediction Center includes nearly all of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida in their Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for tomorrow (Wednesday, March 31). This risk is in place due to the potential for damaging wind gusts and hail in the stronger storms. The overall tornado risk remains quite low across the region on Wednesday. Nearly all parts of every local county is involved in the low-end risk zone: Covington, Butler, Conecuh, Escambia (AL), Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa. A Level 1 (out of 5) low-end risk like this means that a stronger storm or two cannot be completely ruled out, yet widespread, intense severe weather issues are not expected.
SUNNY AND COOLER THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY… After a cold front clears the area on Wednesday evening, much cooler, drier air will filter into our region. Overnight lows by Thursday morning will be in the low-40s ahead of high temperatures only in the 60s on both Thursday and Friday. Full sunshine is ahead for Friday and Saturday.
GORGEOUS WEEKEND AHEAD… The upcoming weekend looks dry and quite nice! High temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday will be in the low-70s with overnight lows in the 40s. Mostly sunny skies are expected each day. It will be near perfect for many outdoor activities!
