DETAILED LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM HURRICANE IDA IN YOUR HOMETOWN… Hurricane Ida is now rapidly intensifying in the central Gulf of Mexico. You will find a comprehensive look at what your specific hometown can expect during Hurricane Ida in the paragraphs below. Hurricane Ida continues to strengthen in the central Gulf of Mexico. The landfall point will likely be in southeastern Louisiana on Sunday evening. Local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida will be possible from Sunday evening through early Tuesday morning. The greatest chance of impacts in our local area will happen near the Alabama beaches and across west Alabama. Please scroll to your county below and I can just about guarantee it will answer any question you have about what you can expect, in terms of specific impacts from Ida.

MOBILE COUNTY, AL… Heavy rain is likely at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 5-8 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be likely to happen at times, particularly in areas prone to flooding. This setup is favorable for a few tornadoes. Storm surge of 2 to 4 feet is currently forecast for the western shore of Mobile Bay, areas near Dauphin Island, Bayou La Batre, and Coden. Minor coastal flooding will be possible. Gusty winds (40-50 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to Mobile Bay and closer to Dauphin Island. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Mobile County.

Watches & Warnings in Effect: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the entire county. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the entire county. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for all low-lying areas near Mobile Bay and the Mississippi Sound.

BALDWIN COUNTY, AL… Heavy rain is likely at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 4-7 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be likely to happen at times, particularly in areas prone to flooding. This setup is favorable for a few tornadoes. Storm surge of 1 to 3 feet is currently forecast for the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Storm surge of 2 to 4 feet is currently forecast for the Alabama beaches, including areas near Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach. Minor coastal flooding will be possible. Gusty winds (40-50 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to Mobile Bay and closer to the Alabama beaches. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Baldwin County.

Watches & Warnings in Effect: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the entire county. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the entire county. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for all low-lying areas near Mobile Bay and the Alabama beaches.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL… Heavy rain is likely at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 3-7 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be likely to happen at times, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Greater rainfall amounts are expected closer to the coast, near Pensacola. This setup is favorable for a few tornadoes. Significant storm surge is currently not expected in any part of Escambia County, FL. Minor coastal flooding may be possible. Gusty winds (30-40 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to the bays and closer to the beaches. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Escambia County, FL.

Greater rainfall amounts are expected closer to the coast, near Navarre. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Significant storm surge is currently not expected in any part of Santa Rosa County. Gusty winds (20-35 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to the bays and closer to the beaches. Breezy (15-25 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Santa Rosa County.

OKALOOSA COUNTY, FL… Heavy rain will be possible at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 2-5 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be possible, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Greater rainfall amounts are expected closer to the coast, near Destin, Niceville, and Fort Walton Beach. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Significant storm surge is currently not expected in any part of Okaloosa County. Gusty winds (20-35 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to the bays and closer to the beaches. Breezy (15-25 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Okaloosa County.

This setup is favorable for a few tornadoes. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions will be possible across all parts of Washington County.

CONECUH COUNTY, AL… Heavy rain will be possible at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 2-5 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be possible, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions will be possible across all parts of Conecuh County.

Locations: Evergreen, Castleberry, Owassa, Repton, Lenox, Range, Burnt Corn, Lyeffion, Centerville, Johnsonville, Brooklyn, Paul, Melrose, Old Sparta, Jay Villa, Belleville.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, AL… Heavy rain will be possible at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 2-6 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be possible, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Greater rain amounts are expected across the western half of Escambia County, AL, near Atmore, Poarch, and Huxford. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions will be possible across all parts of Escambia County, AL.

Watches & Warnings in Effect: A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire county.

Locations: Brewton, East Brewton, Atmore, Flomaton, Riverview, Poarch, Huxford, Wallace, Barnett Crossroads, Pineview, Wawbeek, Canoe, Nokomis, Appleton, Kirkland, Dixie, Roberts, Damascus, Pollard/McCall.

COVINGTON COUNTY, AL… Significant local impacts are not expected for any part of Covington County at this time. Heavy rain will be possible at times. Flash flooding will also be possible, but the risk of flash flooding is less compared to counties farther west. Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches are expected. A brief tornado or two cannot completely be ruled out in Covington County, even though the greater tornado risk will happen to the west. Breezy (10-25 mph gusts) may be possible at times.

Locations: Andalusia, Opp, Florala, Rose Hill, Onycha, Red Oak, Green Bay, Straughn, Red Level, Gantt, Clearview, Carolina, Pleasant Home, Wing, Sanford, Libertyville, Eoda, Horn Hill, Lockhart, River Falls, Loango, Fairfield.

BUTLER COUNTY, AL… Significant local impacts are not expected for any part of Butler County at this time. Heavy rain will be possible at times. Flash flooding will also be possible, but the risk of flash flooding is less compared to counties farther west. Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches are expected. A brief tornado or two cannot completely be ruled out in Butler County, even though the greater tornado risk will happen to the west. Breezy (10-25 mph gusts) may be possible at times.

Locations: Greenville, Georgiana, Chapman, Bolling, Grace, Garland, Oaky Streak, Daisy, Halso Mill, Starlington, Forest Home.

WALTON COUNTY, FL… Heavy rain will be possible at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 1-4 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be possible, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Greater rainfall amounts are expected closer to the coast, near Miramar Beach, Seaside, and Rosemary Beach. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Significant storm surge is currently not expected in any part of Walton County. Gusty winds (20-35 mph gusts) are will be possible in areas closer to the bays and closer to the beaches. Breezy (15-25 mph gusts) conditions are likely in areas farther inland in Walton County.

Locations: Miramar Beach, Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Alys Beach, Mossy Head, Freeport, DeFuniak Springs, Red Bay, Paxton.

CHOCTAW & MARENGO COUNTIES, AL… Heavy rain is likely at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 4-7 inches of total rainfall is expected across the two counties, meaning flash flooding will be likely to happen at times, particularly in areas prone to flooding. This setup is favorable for a few tornadoes. Breezy (15-30 mph gusts) conditions will be possible across all parts of Choctaw and Marengo counties in west Alabama.

Watches & Warnings in Effect: A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all parts of Choctaw County, AL.

Locations: Butler, Needham, Toxey, Silas, Gilbertown, Lisman, Pennington, Demopolis, Linden, Sweet Water, Thomaston, Nanafalia.

WILCOX COUNTY, AL… Heavy rain will be possible at times as the center of Hurricane Ida passes well to the west. 2-6 inches of total rainfall is expected across the county, meaning flash flooding will be possible, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Tornadoes will be possible, but it is impossible to know in advance where these tornadoes may form. Breezy (20-35 mph gusts) conditions will be possible across all parts of Wilcox County.

Locations: Camden, Pine Hill, Yellow Bluff, Possum Bend, Coy, Lower Peach Tree, McWilliams, Rosebud, Oak Hill, Pine Apple.

SOUTHEAST ALABAMA… This includes Crenshaw, Pike, Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Henry, Houston, and Geneva counties. Right now, significant local impacts are not expected for any part of Southeast Alabama. Heavy rain will be possible at times. Flash flooding will also be possible, but the risk of flash flooding is less compared to counties farther west. Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected. A brief tornado or two cannot completely be ruled out in Southeast Alabama, even though the greater tornado risk will happen to the west. Breezy (10-25 mph gusts) may be possible at times.
