MOSTLY SUNNY MONDAY; DRY, WARM DAYS THIS WEEK… An extended streak of quiet weather across our local area is set to continue on this Monday and into the next several days. Mostly sunny skies are expected today and tomorrow. High temperatures today will be in the mid- to upper-80s. I see no signs of an organized rain or severe weather event over the next 7 days. Hurricane Sam continues to slowly across the Atlantic Ocean. Sam is expected to remain well to the east of our local area in the days ahead with no local impacts expected. A few more Monday morning forecast notes are below.
QUIET, NICE WEATHER DAYS AHEAD… A large dome of high pressure will continue to keep our area in a dry zone this week. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-80s today and tomorrow ahead of low-90s becoming possible later in the week. Overnight lows will be in the 60s this week and into the weekend.
HURRICANE SAM EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES… Hurricane Sam remains a powerful, category 4 hurricane located over 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Sam is forecast to gradually move quicker to the northwest and ultimately turn to the north. This means that significant impacts are currently not expected for the Lesser Antilles, The Bahamas, or the USA. Bermuda, however, could have extensive issues from this major hurricane in 5-6 days as the storm approaches the island from the south.
SUBTROPICAL STORM TERESA HAPPENED THIS WEEKEND… If you blinked, you may have missed a weak, short-lived Subtropical Storm Teresa this weekend. The storm developed north of Bermuda and weakened on Saturday to a remnant area of low pressure. Teresa is no more, but the “T name” on the hurricane naming list has been used.
GULF OF MEXICO & CARIBBEAN SEA ARE QUIET; WAVES IN ATLANTIC… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no tropical storms expected to develop at any point over the next 5-6 days. A few tropical waves exist several hundred miles to the east of Hurricane Sam. The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 20% and 60% chance of these waves developing into tropical storms over the next few days. We’ll keep watching these waves as westward movement continues.
