SUNNY TODAY; RAIN RETURNS THIS WEEKEND AS UPPER LOW MOVES BY… Gorgeous weather conditions are expected on this Thursday across south Alabama and northwest Florida ahead of increasing rain chances this weekend. It appears parts of the Deep South will have some snow and/or mixed precipitation on Saturday night into Sunday as an upper-level low pressure area moves by to the east. These particular weather systems can be notoriously challenging to forecast and can often feature some forecast “surprises.” One surprise that seems rather unlikely, however, to happen across our local area is snow and mixed precipitation. Chances of snow are just a bit higher to our north and east across parts of northeast Alabama and northern Georgia. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.
NICE WEATHER TODAY & ON FRIDAY… Mostly sunny skies are likely across the region on this Thursday. High temperatures will be in the mid-60s today. Cloud coverage will increase across the region tomorrow ahead of higher rain chances on Saturday into early Sunday.
RAIN LIKELY AT TIMES SATURDAY EVENING… An upper-level low pressure area will cross Alabama from west to east on Saturday, bringing with it a chance of showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms to our local area. Right now, severe weather parameters continue to be near zero, although the risk of a strong storm that produces gusty winds isn’t exactly out of the realm of possibilities.
SNOW & MIXED PRECIP POSSIBLE TO OUR NORTH… Areas of sleet, freezing rain, and snow may become possible across northeast Alabama and north Georgia on Saturday into Sunday morning as the aforementioned area of low pressure continues pushing to the east. There is a chance for considerable travel impacts in these areas, although details remain a bit murky as we are still ~2 days out from the event. Please stay tuned to the latest information if you have travel plans to northeast Alabama, north Georgia, southeastern Tennessee, or the western Carolinas over the next few days.
CLEARING SKIES SUNDAY… Skies will gradually become sunny on Sunday as clouds continue to clear out. High temperatures will likely be in the 40s as cold, continental air wraps around the exiting area of low pressure to our east.
APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
