RAIN & STORMS TO OUR NORTH TODAY; UNSETTLED WEATHER WEEK AHEAD… Scattered showers will be possible at times today across parts of southwest Alabama, particularly in areas west of the Alabama River in west Alabama. Most communities across the local area, however, will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s today. Several storm systems will pass to our north in the days ahead, bringing high rain amounts (4-6″ of total rainfall) to parts of the northern half of Alabama. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the northwestern corner of the state tomorrow. While occasional showers will be possible locally over the next few days, right now, organized severe storms seem rather unlikely to happen across our local area. A few more Monday morning forecast notes are below.

SHOWERS POSSIBLE IN WEST ALABAMA TODAY… Occasional rain will be possible today across western Alabama. Clarke and Washington counties have the highest chance of rainfall in our local area today. If you’re traveling northbound today, please be aware that heavier showres will be possible at times across the northern and central part of Alabama.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE WELL TO OUR NORTHWEST TODAY… The Storm Prediction Center has included parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk today. A few tornadoes and damaging wind gusts will be possible in the stronger storms that happen in that zone today. We note that the far northwestern corner of Alabama is involved in a Level 1 (out of 5), low-end severe weather risk zone today. That zone extends basically from Vernon, AL to Athens, AL, including places like Muscle Shoals, Florence, Hamilton, and Russellville.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK ACROSS NORTHWEST ALABAMA TOMORROW… A few tornadoes will be possible on Tuesday across parts of the Deep South, specifically in Mississippi, northwest Alabama, southern Tennessee where the Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone. This zone includes Tuscaloosa, Aliceville, Jasper, Hamilton, Fayette, Double Springs, Hamilton, Decatur, Moulton, Florence, Muscle Shoals, and Russellville. Much of the remainder of the northern half of Alabama is involved in the lower-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone tomorrow. Please be aware of this severe weather potential if you’re traveling northward on Tuesday.

SEVERE STORMS NOT EXPECTED LOCALLY TODAY OR TUESDAY… Severe storms are currently not in the forecast for today or tomorrow for any part of southwest Alabama or northwest Florida. Occasional showers will be possible, but no severe storms are currently expected.

RAIN INLAND, DRIER CLOSER TO COAST IN DAYS AHEAD… Rain is more likely to happen at times across inland communities in the days ahead. There is a real chance places near the immediate beach zones like Destin, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach, Navarre, and Pensacola Beach don’t get much rain at all (if any).

STORMS POSSIBLE LATER THIS WEEK; QUITE WARM… A few more thunderstorms may be possible locally on Wednesday into Thursday in our local area. It remains to be seen if any low-level severe weather probabilities will happen, but right now, parameters do not look particularly supportive for severe storms. Temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday in the afternoon hours will be QUITE warm for late February. High temperatures will be in the low-80s each day.

COLD FRONT ARRIVES FRIDAY… Cooler temperatures will come back into our forecast on Friday and into the weekend. High temperatures on Friday will be in the 60s with morning lows in the 40s and 50s.
