FEW STORMS THIS AFTERNOON; NUMEROUS STORMS & HIGH RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Isolated thunderstorms are likely to pop up across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. This weekend, however, storms will become more numerous across the region. The upper-level ridge of high pressure that has kept our region dry (for the most part) over the last few days will shift to the east and allow an area of low pressure to move in from our southwest. While the overall risk of any severe storms is rather low, I do expect storms this weekend to be loud at times.

POP-UP STORMS TODAY & SATURDAY… Isolated showers and storms will be possible this afternoon into this evening. That means that MOST communities will probably remain dry today. Storms will probably start firing up first near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches around midday. Isolated storms will be possible region wide, including inland, by the late afternoon and evening hours. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail will be possible today and on Saturday in the strongest of the storms. Cloud-to-ground lightning will be possible in the storms today and into the weekend.

NUMEROUS STORMS EXPECTED SUNDAY… Sunday could be quite wet, with numerous showers and thunderstorms expected across much of the Deep South. 1-2″ of rain may be possible in some spots across the region, exclusively on Sunday. The overall flash flooding risk is rather low due to ongoing dry conditions in many spots across the region. I will have radar updates posted today, on Saturday, and on Sunday as needed in the RedZone Weather app.

SCATTERED STORMS CONTINUE INTO NEXT WEEK… Our wet, unsettled weather pattern this weekend will extend into early next week with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms being possible Monday into Tuesday. There is some evidence a low-end severe weather risk may set up on Tuesday, although details remain a bit murky. I’ll have updates about this posted over the next few days.

APP… Many updates will be posted throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Be sure to visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner) and tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the alerts you’d like to receive from me. If you like a lot of info, be sure to toggle ON Low-Level Alerts.
