VERY HOT TEMPS THIS WEEKEND; HEAT INDEX AS HIGH AS 115°… Get ready for the hottest weekend of the year with high temperatures set to be around 100 degrees today, tomorrow, and on Sunday. I expect the thermometers to easily show 100+ degrees on Saturday with heat index values in dangerous territory today and tomorrow. While a few pop-up thunderstorms may happen this afternoon and again on Saturday afternoon, I expect the overall coverage of rain and thunderstorms to be rather limited. Sunday and Monday look quite dry with only one or two small storms expected across the region. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.

TAKE IT EASY OUTSIDE THIS WEEKEND… Nearly everyone around here is used to our area having very hot days, but I emphasize this weekend will feature VERY hot temperatures with excessive and oppressive humidity values. I am particularly concerned about vulnerable folks who are susceptible to heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Be aware of the signs and symptoms of these very real conditions that can be fatal if left untreated. Take it easy if you’re going to be outside this weekend!

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE TODAY AND SATURDAY; DRIER SUNDAY… Isolated pop-up thunderstorms will be possible today, primarily after 2PM. The same holds true on Saturday. Storms may pop up in the afternoon and evening hours. Widespread severe weather is not expected today or this weekend.

VERY HOT NEXT WEEK… Unfortunately, it looks like our very hot, humid weather pattern is here to stay for awhile. Model data continues to show high temperatures being close to the 100 degree mark next week. Overnight lows will be in the mid-70s. Dry conditions will prevail early next week ahead of the potential for rain and storms in the afternoon hours late in the week.

TROPICS QUIET… Other than a weak area of low pressure located near the coast of Honduras in the western Caribbean Sea (not expected to develop into a tropical storm), the remainder of the Atlantic Basin is quiet with no tropical storms expected to form over the next 5 days. The Gulf of Mexico remains quiet.
