HEAT ADVISORY TODAY; SCATTERED P.M. STORMS… If you liked the forecast yesterday, good news for you. We have a repeat today of hot, humid conditions on tap with a few P.M. storms ahead. High temperatures will again be in the mid- to upper-90s. Factor in the humidity and you get a heat index value in excess of 105 degrees this afternoon into this evening. I expect showers and thunderstorms to be widely spaced. Where it does rain, however, heavy downpours are expected. Looking ahead, we have more of the same in the forecast. Hot temperatures, excessive humidity, with occasional P.M. storms in each of the next 7-10 days.
TROPICAL UPDATE… The National Hurricane Center continues to track an area of disturbed weather in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. NHC gives this system a 40% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days as the system moves north. From NHC: “A broad area of disturbed weather is located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea, associated with a surface trough of low pressure. Some slow development is possible, and a tropical depression could form by late this week if the system remains over water. The disturbance is expected to move northwestward near the coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras during that time. Regardless of development, this system could produce periods of heavy rainfall across portions of eastern Nicaragua and eastern Honduras late this week.”
