MORE POP-UP STORMS TODAY; TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… Scattered thunderstorms will again be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida this afternoon into this evening. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day, but some inevitably will. There is no formal risk of severe weather anywhere close by, but some of the thunderstorms may be strong at times. High temperatures will be in the low-90s today with heat index values closer to the 100 degree mark this evening. Over the next several days, I see no reason to modify our local forecast in any significant way. Scattered pop-up thunderstorms will continue to be the norm, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours each day.

TROPICS ARE QUIET, FOR NOW… It seems almost unusual (it is not, climatologically speaking!) that we have had barely any tropical activity over the last two months. We certainly have had enough in the way of tropical storms and hurricanes over the last few years. Even though this break from the action at the beginning of the season may end up being short-lived (hopefully not!), it has been nice while it lasted. No tropical storms or hurricanes are expected to form across the Atlantic Basin, including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, over the next 5 days.
