FEW STORMS TODAY; RAIN CHANCES RISE TOMORROW AND FRIDAY… Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. We will not have AS many thunderstorms as previous days, but it is still prudent to check the radar every so often today as a few thunderstorms will develop quickly and fade away just as quick. High temperatures today will be in the low- to mid-90s. Heat index values this afternoon into the early evening hours will be in the 100-105° range. Some locales may have heat index values in excess of 105° briefly this afternoon. Rain chances rise tomorrow into Friday as moisture values increase across the region. Summer pop-up storms will continue to be possible into the weekend and early next week.

TROPICS TO REMAIN QUIET FOR NEXT SEVERAL DAYS… The long range models remain quiet with no indication of a ramp up in activity in the tropical Atlantic over the next 5-7 days. We note that Colorado State University and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the two premier hurricane season forecasting outlets, continue to call for an above-average hurricane season in terms of the number of named storms and hurricanes. We will get a revised forecast from both agencies in August. For now, we enjoy the quiet tropical pattern across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean.
