P.M. POP-UP STORMS LIKELY TODAY… Thunderstorms are expected to fire up this afternoon into this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida as the “daily deluge” of seabreeze-induced storms continues today. High temperatures will be in the low-90s with heat index values closer to the 100 degree mark by 3PM. Over the next few days, we have more of the same in the forecast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible each day, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures are set to remain around the 90 degree mark with morning lows in the mid-70s. While a severe thunderstorm or two can’t be ruled out any day this week, MOST of the storms will remain well under severe limits. Loud thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds will be possible in the pop-up storms this week.

ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… The tropics are quiet. The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean are not expected to support tropical storm formation over the next 5-7 days. It is encouraging that the longer range models into early August continue to be devoid of anything notable in terms of tropical activity. August, September, and October represent “peak season” for hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin, thus we will closely monitor trends each day in the weeks ahead. For now, we enjoy the quiet conditions!
