TROPICAL DISTURBANCE FADES; NOT GOING TO DEVELOP INTO TROPICAL STORM… It’s nice, for a change, to report on some good news: The potential for tropical development in the northern Gulf of Mexico is now off the board. The National Hurricane Center has scratched off any development probabilities for the old frontal boundary draped across our region. Even better news, because of this, it looks like rain amounts won’t be nearly as high as previously expected. Most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida will pick up between 1 and 4 inches of rainfall in total over the next 5 days. Soggy at times, yes. Hazardous flash flooding, probably not.
STORMS HAPPENING THIS EVENING… Scattered thunderstorms continue across the region on this Wednesday evening. At the time I am producing this update around 8:15PM, storms in northern Clarke County are producing quite a bit of cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rain. These storms will move south over the next hour and gradually continue to weaken.
MORE STORMS LIKELY THURSDAY… Rain and thunderstorms will continue to be possible at times over the next few days, including on Thursday. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon and evening hours. Widespread severe weather is not expected and the overall tornado risk remains at or near zero.
STORMS AROUND THIS WEEKEND… The regime of scattered showers and thunderstorms in our local forecast is pretty much unchanged for the weekend. Scattered storms, primarily happening in the afternoon and evening hours, will continue to be the norm into the weekend. I have been getting a lot of questions pertaining to the phrase, “Should I cancel my plans?” The answer is probably not. Just keep tabs on the Radar tab in our RedZone Weather app and know that you may have to get inside due to a pop-up storm around this weekend. Totally normal this time of year. High temperatures this weekend will be in the mid- to upper-80s.
APP… If you haven’t already downloaded the RedZone Weather app, now is a great time to do that. redzoneweather.com/app is the link to the free download. Once you have the RZW app installed on your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab to turn on the specific notifications you’d like to receive. All notifications are handcrafted by me. No automation and we promise not to bug you!
I will have a fresh, detailed forecast video posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. Have a nice Wednesday evening!
Tropical storm formation is no longer expected in the northern Gulf. Rain chances, however, will continue to be fairly high over the next few days. Wednesday evening forecast discussion here: https://t.co/GHhSYdBkY7 pic.twitter.com/dRqoDC5Xk9
