SCATTERED STORMS TODAY AND TONIGHT; RAIN LIKELY IN DAYS AHEAD… Rain and occasional thunderstorms will continue to be the norm across the region on this Wednesday. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours, yet we are already seeing a few storms near the coast this morning. High temperatures today will be in the mid-80s. The good news in our forecast is that chances of a tropical storm forming in the northern Gulf continue to be quite low. While rain and thunderstorms will be likely over the next few days, it looks like significant wind and tornado impacts will likely be mitigated, thankfully. Regardless, rain and storms seem likely over the next few days. A few more Wednesday morning forecast notes are below.
CHANCES OF TROPICAL STORM IN GULF CONTINUE TO DIMINISH… The National Hurricane Center says there is now a 10% chance of a tropical storm forming in the northern Gulf of Mexico. These odds are down compared to previous forecasts. A decaying frontal boundary has provided focus for several clusters of showers and thunderstorms to form over the last few days. Fortunately, none of these clusters of storms have consolidated into a low-level circulation or a tropical storm. All of the major global weather models have backed off the idea of spinning up a brief tropical storm at this point.
WET WEEKEND AT TIMES; SOME SUNSHINE IN THE MIX… Rain and thunderstorms will continue to be likely into the upcoming weekend, although there will be occasional peeks of sunshine. We are not expecting an all day washout on any given day in the next 7 days. Just be aware that storms will be numerous at times, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures this weekend will be in the mid-80s with morning lows in the low-70s.
REMAINDER OF TROPICAL ATLANTIC IS QUIET… Outside of the area of disturbed weather “close to home” in the northern Gulf of Mexico, we note that the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5 days in the Atlantic Basin.
