POP-UP P.M. STORMS TODAY AND IN DAYS AHEAD; TRACKING T.S. BRET… Showers and thunderstorms will likely pop up in the heat of the day on this Wednesday. Pop-up storms are expected to start developing around 11AM-Noon. Storms will likely become numerous by 3-4PM. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day, but where rain does happen, there is a chance for heavy downpours. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, but the stronger storms may briefly produce gusty winds. There is no formal tornado risk anywhere close by today, thankfully. High temperatures today will be in the mid- to upper-80s.
TROPICAL UPDATE: BRET & 93L… Tropical Storm Bret, located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles in the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean, continues to move westward. Bret is expected to move through the Lesser Antilles and into the eastern Caribbean Sea later this week and into the weekend. Tropical storm conditions will be possible in some of the Leeward Islands at times. The National Hurricane Center is explicitly forecasting Bret to remain at tropical storm status while crossing through the Lesser Antilles. In addition, NHC is forecasting Bret to dissipate completely on Sunday or Monday in the central Caribbean Sea while the system continues moving westward. In addition to Bret, two more tropical waves are noted in the Atlantic Ocean. One is INVEST 93L, a tropical wave several hundred miles behind/east of Bret. 93L has a high chance of becoming a tropical storm while pushing west-northwest over the next few days. If or when 93L becomes a named tropical storm, it will take the name “Cindy.” Another tropical wave is moving off the west coast of Africa and into the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. Yet another system to monitor over the next few days. The Gulf of Mexico remains quiet, for now.
