RAIN & STORMS TODAY AND SATURDAY; DRIER BY SUNDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible throughout the day on this Friday.
Please have a way to hear urgent weather warnings through tomorrow afternoon!
SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY; FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE… Active weather is expected at times over the next 24-36 hours with multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms being possible. Some of the thunderstorms may be severe, just like what we saw earlier this morning in parts of southern Mobile and Baldwin counties. Wind gusts were as high as 64 mph early this morning around 2AM as storms moved east near the Alabama beaches. Thunderstorms that happen today into tonight and Saturday will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail, and perhaps a tornado or two. I am also particularly concerned about heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – TODAY INTO TONIGHT… Severe thunderstorms will be possible throughout the day and into tonight, however, the greatest risk across southwest Alabama and northwest Florida is from 2PM to 11PM on this Friday. Have a way to hear warnings today, tonight, and into early Saturday!
FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE TODAY INTO TONIGHT… Not every community will have an all day rain today or Saturday but there will be some communities that pick up quite a bit of rain. I am particularly concerned about parts of west Alabama where 3 to 5 inches of total rainfall through Saturday seems quite likely. Monroe, Clarke, and Washington counties have the highest risk of flash flooding through Saturday with a slightly lower (but not zero!) risk for counties to the south and east of there.
DRIER WEATHER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… No storms are in the forecast for the daytime hours of Sunday. Mostly sunny skies will come back into our forecast for Sunday and into Monday as well. High temperatures will be in the 80s and near 90 each day with morning lows in the upper-60s.
TROPICAL UPDATE… The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season kicks off in just a few weeks on Saturday, June 1. Tropical storm formation is not expected in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean over the next 5-7 days.
