QUITE HOT & HUMID TODAY AND TOMORROW; P.M. POP-UP STORMS… Extreme heat and humidity will cause heat index values (what the air actually feels like as opposed to what is visible on the thermometer) to be in the 105-115° range this afternoon into this evening. The one bit of heat relief today will be where scattered showers and thunderstorms bubble up in the P.M. hours. MOST communities across the region will remain dry but a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely. Severe storms are not expected, but the stronger storms will be capable of producing cloud-to-ground lightning, loud thunder, localized downpours, and gusty winds.

HOT TEMPERATURES & P.M. STORMS EACH DAY THIS WEEK… We are settling into a consistent weather pattern today that will last all week and into the upcoming weekend. Pop-up thunderstorms will be possible each day, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. The greatest rain chances this week will likely set up on Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s today and tomorrow with heat index values in excess of 105° in the afternoon hours. Highs will be in the low-90s later this week. Morning lows will consistently be in the low- to mid-70s each day this week.

TROPICS NOW QUIET… The tropical disturbances we tracked last week have now all dissipated. There are no areas of immediate concern that may develop into named tropical storms over the next 5-7 days in the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, or the Caribbean Sea. The peak of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season will happen on Wednesday, September 11. Hurricane season ends on Saturday, November 30.

P.M. POP-UP STORMS EACH DAY THIS WEEK… We will be tracking pop-up thunderstorms across the region tomorrow as well, particularly in the P.M. hours.
