HEAT ADVISORY TODAY; A FEW P.M. STORMS… Heat index values will be in the 105-110° range in many communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. What you see on the thermometer (air temps) will be closer to 93-95° this afternoon. Rain and thunderstorms will happen this afternoon, but the overall coverage of showers and thunderstorms should be less compared to previous days. This means that some communities will not have rain before the end of the day and simply be hot, mostly sunny, and dry. Slightly lower rain chances are expected on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday ahead of rain chances rising as we get into the upcoming weekend.

HEAT ALERT FOR ENTIRE AREA TODAY… All local counties in south Alabama and northwest Florida are now included in a Heat Advisory due to excessive heat and humidity values expected this afternoon into this evening. Heat index values of 105-115° are expected across the region. Take it easy if you’re planning to be outside for an extended period of time today. Unfortunately, high heat index values will persist into Wednesday as well. We note heat index numbers may be even worse on Thursday and Friday due to even higher projected afternoon highs and even more humidity in place across the region.

50-60% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT NEAR THE BAHAMAS… Confidence is growing that a tropical wave will develop into a named tropical storm when the system is near the Turks & Caicos or The Bahamas later this week. Right now, the system is located in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean a few hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The overall environment ahead of this system continues to seem favorable for development. Most of the model trends have continued to show a northerly turn in the vicinity of The Bahamas later this week or into the weekend. It continues to be too early to completely rule out Gulf of Mexico impacts, but the trends certainly have been encouraging over the last 48 hours. I will continue to monitor this system and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.
