HOT FRIDAY; FEW WIDELY SCATTERED P.M. STORMS; QUITE HOT THIS WEEKEND… Air temperatures will be in the upper-90s again on this Friday. Heat index values will be in the 105-110° range region wide. Unlike the last few days, there is a chance for a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most communities will remain dry and hot today and into the weekend.
REMNANTS OF DEBBY TO CONTINUE MOVING NORTH… The Carolinas are finally set to get a break from the relentless rainfall that has happened over the last several days now that the remnant circulation of Tropical Storm Debby moves north and ultimately northeast and out of the area. There is a low-end tornado risk in areas east of the center of circulation in parts of the Northeast today, from Virginia northward to New York. The remnants of Debby will move into Canada this weekend.
TROPICAL WAVE MAY DEVELOP INTO TROPICAL STORM SOON… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 40% chance of a tropical wave developing into a named tropical storm near the northernmost Lesser Antilles or Puerto Rico in the next 5-7 days. Details are still a bit murky, but the good news is, most model guidance shows the system turning north well to the east of the continental United States. That is by no means set in stone, but the trends certainly have been encouraging so far. I will continue to monitor this system and bring you the latest over the next few days.
