DRY WEEKEND; RAIN AT TIMES MIDWEEK… Rain chances will rise in the middle part of the upcoming week. Nice weekend ahead of us! Highs in the 90s on Saturday and Sunday.
SUNNY WEEKEND; TROPICAL DISTURBANCE MAY DEVELOP BY MIDWEEK… Ample sunshine is expected today, tomorrow, and on Sunday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the low-90s today and tomorrow. Rain chances remain quite low through the weekend and into early next week. I will be closely monitoring trends over the weekend surrounding the tropical disturbance likely to develop in the western Caribbean Sea or southern Gulf next week.
A TROPICAL STORM FORMING NEXT WEEK IS BECOMING MORE LIKELY; LONG TERM DETAILS UNCLEAR… Chances are increasing for a tropical storm to form in the western Caribbean Sea or the southern Gulf of Mexico around the middle of the upcoming week. Beyond that, details concerning where the system will ultimately end up remain quite uncertain. The bottom line is we won’t have many more details on this developing system until the weekend or perhaps even early next week.
CERTAINTY SURROUNDING FUTURE OF DEVELOPING TROPICAL SYSTEM REMAINS QUITE LOW… Will this tropical disturbance develop to the point of becoming a named tropical storm? Will an upper-level trough across the continental United States cause the system to lift northward? Will the system “miss” the trough” and instead sit and spin across the central Gulf of Mexico? These are all valid questions at this point that we simply cannot resolve this evening. Modeling for the system has, quite frankly, been literally all over the board. Last night I indicated there seemed to be perhaps an initial trend of the eastern half of the Gulf of Mexico region having greater odds for potential impacts, but even that today has become less certain. The good news is we have several days before any impacts for land areas in any part of the United States. Please check back in for updates over the next several days.
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL FORECAST… If you’re headed out to a high school football game across south Alabama or northwest Florida, you can expect dry conditions. Temperatures around kickoff at 7PM will be near the 80 degree mark with temperatures falling into the mid-70s by 9PM. Overall, it will be a nice night to get out and attend one of the games.
