🌪️ Do you have a plan if a tornado warning is issued for your area later today? If you're in a mobile/manufactured home, you can't stay there! It is critical to get to a safe place (underground, if you can) like an interior room.

🌪️#TornadoSafety Tip → When taking shelter, remember this: GET IN. 🏠 GET DOWN. ⬇️ COVER UP. ⛑️
👉Go to the lowest floor of a building (an underground shelter/basement if possible). Get under a sturdy table or a stairwell. Cover up with blankets & pillows.— NWS Mobile (@NWSMobile) May 17, 2024

WEATHER ALERT… Tornado Watch Cancelled for Bay-FL & Calhoun-FL Counties.
Alert Cancelled by the National Weather Service TAE at 8:49 PM CDT Friday, May 17, 2024 and is valid until 12:00 AM CDT Saturday, May 18, 2024.
HAVE A WAY TO HEAR WARNINGS OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY; TORNADOES POSSIBLE… I realize it is the last thing everyone wants to hear but we have yet another round of strong to severe thunderstorms coming up overnight into Saturday morning. Everyone across south Alabama and northwest Florida needs a way to hear urgent weather warnings as atmospheric parameters will again become supportive of all severe weather hazards. This is NOT a night for you to stay up and miss sleep AS LONG AS you have a way to hear warnings and have a device like a NOAA Weather Radio that can be loud and wake you up if warnings are needed for our area.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY… 1AM to 10AM is the nine hour window when strong to severe thunderstorms will be most likely to happen across southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. Storms will likely start from the west and build in overnight to the east.
SLIGHTLY HIGHER RISK TO THE SOUTH, LOWER RISK INLAND… The latest convective outlook update continues to include Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Escambia (AL), and southern Covington counties in the Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk. This means scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible, including tornadoes and damaging wind gusts. Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Butler, and northern Covington counties are involved in the lower-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone. A Level 1 risk means a few strong to severe storms may happen, but the risk IS lower. It won’t be identical, but the risk overnight into Saturday is SIMILAR to what happened last night with storms being most likely to happen closer to the coast. I do think, unlike last night, we probably will have more in the way of warnings, including potentially tornado warnings. Have a way to get warnings overnight!
RAIN AND STORMS TO CLEAR OUT AROUND MIDDAY SATURDAY… This will be another large mass of rain and thunderstorms that moves across our region. Odds are pretty high that rain will be ongoing for much of Saturday morning across the region. Rain chances will probably be lower on Saturday afternoon and evening. Isolated storms will be possible Saturday evening, particularly farther inland.
APP… If you haven’t already downloaded the RedZone Weather app, now is a great time to do that. redzoneweather.com/app is the link to the free download. Once you have the RZW app installed on your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab to turn on the specific notifications you’d like to receive. All notifications are handcrafted by me. No automation and we promise not to bug you!
I will have rolling updates posted in the RedZone Weather app overnight, as needed, particularly after 3AM. As always, if tornado warnings are issued locally, I will “go live” and stay live until the warning is over. Have a nice Friday evening!
