HEAVY RAIN & THUNDERSTORMS TODAY; COLD END TO THE WEEK COMING UP… Rain and thunderstorms are likely at times over the next several hours across south Alabama and northwest Florida. There will be periods of heavier rain, especially closer to the coast. The overall risk of severe storms remains quite low today, but not entirely zero. While the main concern will be the potential for flash flooding where storms train over the same areas, a brief tornado or two along with gusty winds in the strongest of the storms cannot completely be ruled out. Again, most of us will simply have rain and thunder at times through the afternoon and early evening hours. Thunderstorms will clear out this evening. Drier conditions will prevail in most spots after 6PM.
LOW-END, LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK TODAY… The Storm Prediction Center has included all of south Alabama and northwest Florida in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid for today. Anytime there is a Level 1 (out of 5) risk in place, it means that widespread severe storms are not expected, but a few, brief severe storms could happen. The main concern in any thunderstorms that become strong will be the risk of gusty winds. The overall tornado risk today remains quite low. Perhaps not completely zero, but quite low.
COLDER AIR COMING LATER THIS WEEK… The moisture influx due to an advancing cold front and due to the remnants of the system that once was Tropical Storm Sara will kick out to our east on Tuesday evening, giving way to drier air arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Cold air will start filtering into our region on Wednesday evening. High temperatures will be in the upper-50s on Thursday and Friday with morning lows in the 30s by Friday morning.

RAIN & STORMS THROUGHOUT THE DAY… Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue for much of the day on this Tuesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Flash flooding will become a concern where storms train over the same areas. Isolated strong or even marginally severe storms possible. Tornado risk is quite low today, but not entirely zero.
I will have updates posted throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app. Have a nice Tuesday!
