PARTLY CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON; HOTTER TEMPS INTO WEEKEND… Rain chances remain quite low on this Wednesday with partly cloudy skies expected in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be near 90 degrees this afternoon with some spots briefly hitting 91-92°. Dry conditions are likely tomorrow ahead of rain chances increasing slightly as we get into the weekend with increasing humidity values as well. We will trend toward pop-up thunderstorms returning to our local forecast next week.

TROPICS: CARIBBEAN & GULF REMAIN QUIET… The Gulf and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. The climatological peak of hurricane season happens on September 11. That doesn’t mean the Gulf will become active around the peak, necessarily, but it does mean we have to watch any systems that have any potential of developing carefully. For now, the Gulf is in good shape.

TROPICS: 70% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM DEVELOPING IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… A tropical wave currently situated several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands in the eastern Atlantic Ocean continues to slowly move westward. This system has a 70% chance of becoming a named tropical storm while moving west-northwest in the days ahead. We note that most of the model guidance shows the system recurving into the Atlantic, perhaps missing the U.S. well to the east. It is too early to say that conclusively, but the trends have been growing for that idea over the last couple of days. Interests in the Leeward Islands and Bermuda should closely monitor the progress of this developing system.

PARTLY CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON… Cloud coverage will increase this afternoon into this evening. Rain chances are not zero, but they’re low enough to not include a 10% chance today in the forecast graphic. Nearly all of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will be dry today with high temperatures near 90°.

Have a great Wednesday!
