SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY AND THURSDAY AHEAD OF COOLER, DRIER WEEKEND… Spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible at times across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. The greatest chance of showers and storms will happen this afternoon into this evening. Unfortunately, not every community across the region will have rain before the end of the day. Rain totals will generally be under 0.5″ of rain in total where showers and storms happen. We have one more unsettled weather day tomorrow ahead of cooler, drier air moving into the region tomorrow night. The weather pattern across the region this weekend will be as close to perfect as you can get in the eyes of most folks.

COLD FRONT ARRIVES TOMORROW… Today and tomorrow will feature scattered showers and thunderstorms across the local area. Widespread severe storms are not expected. Cooler, drier air has made it to parts of north Alabama and north Mississippi today where highs will only be in the 70s. That same cooler air mass will move south behind an advancing cold front over the next 24-36 hours. High temperatures across the local area today will be in the upper 80s – quite a bit different than what will happen locally on Friday.

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER THIS WEEKEND WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES… If you’ve wondered where the fall weather is, it is coming to our local area on Friday. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s in many spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Friday with partly cloudy skies throughout the day. The high school football games across the region on Friday night should have fantastic football weather. Temperatures will be in the 60s for many of the local games.

TROPICS: TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN THE FAR SOUTHERN GULF… The National Hurricane Center flagged a tropical disturbance in the far southern Gulf with a 10% chance of developing into a tropical storm before the system moves into mainland Mexico tomorrow. From NHC: “A trough of low pressure located over the Yucatan Peninsula is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This system is expected to emerge over the Bay of Campeche later today, and some slow development is possible before it moves inland over southern Mexico late Wednesday or early Thursday. Regardless of development, areas of heavy rain and gusty winds are likely across portions of the Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, and southern Mexico during the next couple of days.”

TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM JERRY IN THE ATLANTIC… The tropical wave we have been tracking over the last few days, located near the halfway point between the Lesser Antilles and the west coast of Africa, developed into a named tropical storm yesterday. Tropical Storm Jerry is centered about 1,200 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Jerry is forecast to become a hurricane tonight or tomorrow before moving very close to the northern Lesser Antilles (specifically Antigua and Barbuda, Guadeloupe, and the British Virgin Islands) Thursday night into Friday morning. Jerry could bring impacts to Bermuda by Sunday. Thankfully, direct local impacts in Alabama and northwest Florida are not expected due to Jerry.
