TORNADO DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS… The National Weather Service office in Mobile will send out four meteorologists across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Monday to assess the many tracks of potential tornadoes that happened earlier today (Sunday, April 22, 2018). As we get the results back for each area, we’ll bring those to you here in the RedZone Weather app. Here are a few areas that NWS Mobile will likely be visiting…
NEXT UPDATE… My next forecast update will be posted by 7:15AM. Thank you to the thousands of people that watched our RedZone Weather severe weather coverage. My thoughts and prayers go out this evening to everyone who had property damage due to storms. I am SO thankful we have had no storm-related injury/fatality reports! Good night!

LINE OF SHOWERS… The line of showers and thunderstorms we’ve been tracking over the last hour is producing heavy rain near Brewton, East Brewton, Kirkland, Castleberry, Jay Villa, Johnsonville, Evergreen, Georgiana, and Starlington. Nothing severe, just heavy rain with occasional lightning and thunder. I’m watching the line, but I’m not expecting storms to ramp up to severe levels at this point.
The entire Birmingham metro area is now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning till 9:15PM as a line of storms moves in from the west… Be inside and away from windows! TORNADO WATCH CANCELLED… The National Weather Service has cancelled the tornado watch that was in effect for Covington, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Crenshaw counties. The severe weather risk across south Alabama and northwest Florida is rapidly ending.
LINE OF SHOWERS MOVING EAST… We note a heavy, but thin, band of showers and thunderstorms are currently pushing through northern Monroe, Butler, Conecuh, and Escambia counties in Alabama. There is nothing severe involved, and this line of showers will continue pushing to the east into Covington and Crenshaw counties within the next 90 minutes.
CLEARING SKIES OVERNIGHT… Skies will start to clear from west to east and when we wake up Monday morning, skies will likely be partly cloudy across the region. After tonight, the next chance of rain happens on Tuesday P.M. when a few isolated showers will be possible.
NEXT UPDATE/THANK YOU… My next video update will be posted by 7:15AM here in the RedZone Weather app and on Facebook. Thank you to everyone who watched, shared, liked, and commented on our severe weather coverage throughout the day. Today (Sunday, April 22, 2018) will go down as the PRIME example of why we must be diligent when we have a low-end, Level 1 “marginal” severe weather risk in place. The good news – no severe weather is expected Monday through Friday, as of now. Have a nice evening!
