MORE P.M. SHOWERS & STORMS… Our weather pattern remains on repeat with more showers and thunderstorms likely to fire up later today across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures return to the mid-90s yet again with heat index values soaring into the low-100s by the lunch hour. We’re also watching an area of developing low pressure in the western Atlantic. Let’s talk details…

TYPICAL SUMMER STORMS… While severe weather remains unlikely, pop-up thunderstorms ARE likely this afternoon across the region. We can’t pinpoint exactly when and where storms will fire, but you’ll need to be prepared for the potential for heavy rain downpours mainly between Noon and 8PM. The stronger storms will pack a punch, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.

TROPICAL LOW TO DEVELOP NEAR NORTH CAROLINA… A non-tropical area of low pressure currently situated over the eastern part of North Carolina will move over the open waters of the western Atlantic Ocean later today or tomorrow. The National Hurricane Center indicates this system could acquire some tropical characteristics in the days ahead. There is a low-end (20%) chance that this system may develop into a tropical storm over the next 5 days. The good news for Alabama and northwest Florida is no direct impacts are expected from this system, regardless of development.

APP ALERTS… I’ll have radar updates later today as needed here in the RedZone Weather app. Again, severe weather is unlikely, but the stronger storms could definitely produce heavy rain and lightning.
