Showers and thunderstorms are producing isolated downpours of heavy rain across southern Escambia (FL) and Santa Rosa counties… In the last few moments, a storm has also popped up on the southern side of the Mobile, AL metro area.

While storms have been confined to coastal counties so far this afternoon, I expect more isolated storms to form over inland areas as well. Be ready for downpours!

EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE… Showers and thunderstorms are happening near Molino, Pensacola, Warrington, and Eglin Air Force Base early on this Monday afternoon. Most of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida remain under partly cloudy skies, but storms are rapidly popping up across the region and will continue to do so over the next few hours.

Don’t be surprised by scattered downpours of heavy rain, thunder/lightning, and gusty winds in the stronger storms. I’m not expecting widespread severe weather, but I also wouldn’t be shocked to see a stronger storm or two across the region before the end of the day. I’ll have radar updates over the next few hours here in the RZWeather app.

HEAT ADVISORY AGAIN TODAY; HEAT INDEX TO APPROACH 105 DEGREES… Another hot day is in progress across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Temperatures will rise into the mid-90s this afternoon. Combined with dewpoint values well into the 70s will make for a heat index across the region of near 105-110 in spots. NWS Mobile has our area under a Heat Advisory due to this extreme heat. There will again be scattered showers and thunderstorms around this afternoon and this evening, with some spots having half of an inch of rain while most of us have none. Widespread severe weather is not expected.

MORE OF THE SAME UPCOMING… Hot temperatures, ample humidity, and pop-up storms in the afternoon and evening hours are ahead. High temperatures through Wednesday will be in the 90s with morning lows in the mid-70s. Some of the storms could be on the strong side, but severe weather is not expected and the tornado threat remains at basically zero.
