STORMS TO POP UP TODAY; WATCHING KIRK… Another round of showers and thunderstorms will happen on this Monday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will peak near 90 in most spots this afternoon. While the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are quiet (thankfully), the Atlantic remains very active with several tropical systems in progress. We’ve got the details for you. Let’s talk…

TROPICAL STORM KIRK MOVING WEST… The 11th named tropical storm of the season (Kirk) is moving quickly across the central Atlantic Ocean. Kirk is expected to reach the Lesser Antilles by Friday, most likely as a weakening tropical storm. Just like Tropical Depression 11 that went before it (and faded out), Kirk will move into a more hostile environment with more atmospheric shear by the end of the week. The system is expected to peak in intensity on Tuesday with maximum winds near 65mph. By the time Kirk reaches the Antilles, max. winds will likely be around 40-45mph. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess as to IF Kirk will survive or where the system will move. We’ll keep you posted. Something to watch, but not something to stress about.

LESLIE & INVEST 98L… Subtropical Storm Leslie is about 1,200 miles to the east of Bermuda in the open waters of the Atlantic. Leslie will likely not affect any land before it likely disappates in 4-5 days. Another area of low pressure (branded as INVEST 98L) has a 30-40% chance of developing into a tropical storm before it moves toward the North Carolina coast later this week. We note that most models keep the center of the area of low pressure to the east of the Carolinas.

VERY SUMMERLIKE THIS WEEK… Closer to home, it’s going to feel very much like summer this week with high temperatures near 90 and morning lows near 72. Pop-up storms are likely each day, particularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the afternoon and evening hours.

Have a great Monday! Let me know if you have any weather-related questions.

FEW SHOWERS IN NW FLORIDA… Several showers and thunderstorms are drifting northwest across southern portions of Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties. If you’re awakened by the sound of raindrops or thunder overnight, have comfort knowing that severe weather is not expected.

Another round of scattered thunderstorms will pop up Monday late morning into the afternoon hours.
