HOT DAY WITH A FEW POP-UP STORMS… Hot temperatures are the big weather headline for south Alabama and northwest Florida today and on Tuesday. High temperatures will peak around 95°. Combined with a very humid airmass in place, heat index values will rise to around 110° this afternoon. There could be a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms around this afternoon, but most of us will be dry and hot.

LAST ADVISORY ON FLORENCE… The last advisory has been issued by the National Hurricane Center on Tropical Depression Florence. The system is moving north across the Appalachian Mountains. Heavy rain will continue today across portions of the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia, but overall impacts will start to subside in the next day or two. Rain totals across VA/WV will be nowhere close to what has happened in the Carolinas over the last few days. River flooding is set to continue for many days across North Carolina and South Carolina.

TROPICS TO BE QUIET AGAIN… Helene is no more as the system has accelerated toward the United Kingdom. Tropical Depression Joyce will dissipate today or tomorrow in the far eastern Atlantic, well away from land. The remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac continue to bring heavy rain to parts of Jamaica and Cuba, but overall organization of the system has not increased. The remnants of Isaac will move west-northwest in the days ahead. There is a very low (10-20%) chance of redevelopment. We’ll keep you posted. Elsewhere in the tropics, things are quiet. Overall, we should be entering a period of less tropical activity compared to the first two weeks of September.

HOT DAYS AHEAD… A big ridge of high pressure is keeping our weather pattern stable this week. The biggest issues will be the heat, humidity, and the occasional pop-up thunderstorms that will primarily happen in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures are slated to be in the low- to mid-90s with morning lows around 72° for the next week.

The Monday #rzw forecast video will be posted shortly here in the RedZone Weather app and on rzweather.com.

I look forward to discussing weather and technology with some of the students at my high school alma mater, T.R. Miller High School, in Brewton, Alabama today. I’ll have a few pictures posted from that event this evening. Have a wonderful Monday!
