ISOLATED STORMS THIS AFTERNOON… Summertime pulse thunderstorms will pop up this afternoon into this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. We are starting this morning in the mid-70s but we will quickly reach the 80 degree mark by 9AM. Temperatures will reach 90 by Noon and most spots will reach their peak in the 93-95 degree range by 3PM. Heat index values could approach 100 degrees this afternoon. While the storms that pop up today will likely be under severe limits, it’s no secret to anyone that these storms can be quite ferocious at times. Very heavy rain, gusty winds, cloud-to-ground lightning, and small hail can accompany the stronger storms. More of the same is in store over the next few days. Let’s look at a few details…
SLIGHTLY HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Moisture will continue to be plentiful in the atmosphere as we head into the upcoming weekend. That, combined with influence from the daily seabreeze, will set off scattered thunderstorms on both Saturday and Sunday in the afternoon and evening hours. We’ll call it a 50-60% chance of rain for now. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, make sure you have an indoor backup ready to go in case you happen to be under one of the pop-up storms. High temperatures Friday through Sunday will be in the low-90s with morning lows around 72.
LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK… I see nothing in the way of significant forecast changes at this point. We will maintain a 30-50% chance of showers and thunderstorms each day next week. Most of those will happen in the P.M. hours. High temperatures will be in the 90s with morning lows in the 70s. Consistency is the word around here during our summer weather pattern!
GOOD NEWS! TROPICS QUIET… No tropical storm formation is expected over the next 5-7 days, per the latest Tropical Weather Outlook issued by the National Hurricane Center.
