NO END IN SIGHT FOR SEASONAL SUMMERTIME PATTERN… High temperatures will again be in the mid-90s on this Wednesday. Scattered, pop-up showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening, mainly in the core heating hours of the day between 1PM and 7PM. Not everyone will have rain before the end of the day, but where storms do happen, I expect localized heavy downpours of rain. It’s near impossible to pinpoint exactly where storms will fire this afternoon. HIGHEST RAIN CHANCE OVER NEXT WEEK: SATURDAY… While there is at least some chance of rain in each of the next 5-7 days, it looks like the greatest chance of showers and thunderstorms will happen on Saturday. We’ll call it a 60% chance of showers and storms, mainly happening in the afternoon and evening hours.

CONSISTENT HOT PATTERN… I see nothing in the short-term or the long-term weather models that suggest any major variance in the temperature department. High temperatures will consistently be in the 90s with morning lows in the 70s over the next two weeks. Heat index values each afternoon will surge to around the 100 degree mark.

NO TROPICAL STORMS THIS WEEK… The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest that tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5-7 days, meaning the Atlantic basin remains quiet. Tropical activity generally starts ramping up in mid-July. This lull in activity in June is certainly not uncommon.

WARNING UPDATE… The severe thunderstorm warning is now cancelled for Escambia County, FL. The severe thunderstorm capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts has completely moved into Santa Rosa County, FL. We encourage no driving on the Chumuckla Highway (which is Santa Rosa County Road 197 that connects Pace up to Jay) as large hail may be falling right now near Chumuckla and the soccer fields south of there along CR197. This storm is moving eastward toward Allentown, Point Baker, and Whiting Field. HEADS UP if you’re driving along FL87 or FL89. Those are the next two major roads in line to see hail and gusty winds along with very heavy downpours of rain. If you’re commuting home NORTHWARD on those two roads, I would pull over and wait this out in Milton. If you’re traveling southbound on FL87, I would pull off at Berrydale and wait this out.
