SMALL SHOWERS & STORMS POPPING UP… We’re observing numerous showers and thunderstorms developing across south Alabama and northwest Florida late on this Tuesday morning. Heavy downpours of rain are happening near Repton, Lenox, River Falls, Dozier, and Niceville. I expect the coverage of showers and thunderstorms to increase over the next 2-3 hours. Be ready for scattered downpours of heavy rain. Some of the storms may produce intense cloud-to-ground lightning.

NUMEROUS STORMS AROUND TODAY; WATCHING T.D. #3… Rain chances will be quite high across all of south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday as a cold front moves by our area from northwest to southeast. Showers and thunderstorms will be numerous but severe weather remains highly unlikely. Rain chances will be greatest from 1PM to 8PM this evening. High temperatures will peak in the mid-80s today as cloud cover keeps our region below our normal temperatures for this time of year. We’re also monitoring the weak tropical system near the Florida coast. Let’s look at a few details…
SLIGHTLY COOLER FOR WEDNESDAY… Much of the rain and storm action will be confined to the immediate coastal zones on Wednesday as slightly drier, slightly cooler air takes hold of much of our region. Temperatures will peak in the mid- to upper-80s across the region on Wednesday into Thursday with overnight lows in the upper-60s. Enjoy the brief respite from the heat as it won’t last long. We’ll be back in the 90s by the weekend.
NO TROPICAL ISSUES FOR SOUTH AL OR NW FL… Tropical Depression 3 will have basically no effect on our local weather pattern in south Alabama or northwest Florida. We will continue to have pop-up showers and thunderstorms over the next few days with slightly cooler, drier air sneaking in behind an advancing cold front.
FLORIDA AND NORTH CAROLINA IMPACTS… Impacts across the Florida Peninsula (Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, surrounding areas) are expected to be minimal. Higher waves and dangerous rip currents will be possible along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean over the next few days. Rain chances will be slightly increased on Wednesday in the far eastern part of North Carolina because of Tropical Depression 3.
TD3 FORECAST… The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for Tropical Depression #3 to remain weak. At the moment, NHC is calling for the system to remain a tropical depression until dissipation tomorrow (Wednesday) as the system merges with a cold front near the North Carolina coast. Upper-level winds are unfavorable for rapid development.
REST OF THE TROPICS ARE QUIET… Other than Tropical Depression #3, the rest of the tropical Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea are quiet. No additional tropical formation is expected over the next 2-4 days.
