MOSTLY SUNNY SATURDAY; FEW STORMS NEAR THE COAST… Sunshine and puffy, white cumulus clouds will be the sky conditions on this Saturday for many spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will peak around 90-92° in most spots. Humidity levels continue to rise after the rare July cold front brought in drier air earlier in the week. There could be a few isolated thunderstorms this afternoon, especially in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), and Santa Rosa counties. We’ll call it a 20% chance of rain, meaning vast majority of us should remain dry and hot throughout the day. Rain chances will steadily increase over the next few days. Let’s look at a few forecast details…

HOT, MAINLY DRY SUNDAY AHEAD… Another day with lots of sunshine, heat, and humidity is expected on Sunday. Temperatures around 6AM will be in the 66-68° range. That might be the last time we have mid-60s on the board for quite some time. High temperatures will rise to around 93°. Rain chances will again be in the 10-20% chance range for any given spot across our region, meaning most of us should remain dry throughout the day.

SLIGHTLY HIGHER RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK… We return to a seasonal summer weather pattern that you would probably expect as we go into next week. High temperatures will consistently be in the low-90s with morning lows around 71°. Mostly sunny skies are likely in the morning hours followed by scattered thunderstorms becoming possible in the afternoon and evening hours each day. For now, I see no indications of any potential severe weather. Good news!

TROPICS QUIET NOW; MORE ACTIVE SOON?… The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to suggest that no tropical storm formation is expected in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean over the next 3-4 days. I wouldn’t be shocked if NHC introduces a low-end chance of tropical storm development in the middle part of the Atlantic between the Lesser Antilles and the western coast of Africa. There is some indication that the few tropical waves in that area may eventually strengthen into tropical storms. We’ll keep watching. Certainly nothing to stress over (or really even think twice about at this point!) but it is something to keep an eye on as we go into next week. I’ll keep you posted.

FEW STORMS NEAR BEACHES THIS AFTERNOON; TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT NOT EXPECTED… Isolated showers and thunderstorms may happen this afternoon into this evening near the immediate shoreline of Alabama and northwest Florida. Vast majority of us will be dry and warm today with high temperatures near the 90 degree mark. Humidity levels will begin to creep back up today ahead of a hot, humid weekend that will feel much more typical for late July. The good news is we won’t be dealing with a tropical storm today or this weekend. Let’s look at your weekend forecast details…

ISOLATED STORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON… Rain chances will be between 10% and 20% this afternoon into this evening across Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties. Most spots across inland areas will remain dry. High temperatures are expected to peak near 90° today. Not everyone will be wet, and there is a good chance that most of our beach areas will remain dry throughout the day. Any rain that does happen will be because of pop-up, brief thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Severe weather is not expected today.

SCATTERED STORMS THIS WEEKEND… More showers and thunderstorms will be around this weekend across the region. Most of the storm action will happen in the afternoon and evening hours when we have the most heat content in the atmosphere. Storms will be scattered, meaning some spots may have no rain while some have multiple rounds of rain and storms. High temperatures will be in the low-90s with morning lows in the low-70s.

TROPICAL UPDATE… The National Hurricane Center now says that the area of disturbed weather in the north-central Gulf of Mexico associated with an old frontal boundary now has a near 0% chance of developing into a classified tropical system. Good news! The rest of the tropical Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea are quiet. No tropical storm formation is expected in the next 4-6 days.

MORE POP-UP STORMS LIKELY EARLY NEXT WEEK… There is nothing in the medium-range model guidance to suggest anything “abnormal” for late July into early August. We’ll have a round of showers and thunderstorms pretty much each afternoon in the upcoming week. High temperatures are slated to be in the low-90s with morning lows around 70.
