FEW SMALL SHOWERS MOVING NORTH… Vast majority of south Alabama and northwest Florida is drying out after the rain in many spots today. There are a few small showers happening near McDavid, Bogia, Bluff Springs, Range, Carlton, Lyeffion, and Brownsdale. These showers are lifting to the north and seem to be slowly weakening.

RAIN & STORMS POSSIBLE AT TIMES OVERNIGHT… The air mass in place across our region is moist and conducive for more showers and thunderstorms to develop around the large counterclockwise circulation of Tropical Storm Barry. Don’t be surprised by heavy downpours of rain at times overnight. There could be some thunder involved as well. The overall tornado risk remains very low, but not quite zero (especially in west Alabama).

I’ll be intermittently checking the radar throughout the night with updates here in the RZW app and at redzoneweather.com as necessary.

LOW-END TORNADO RISK CONTINUES OVERNIGHT; BARRY WEAKENING… There will continue to be a low-end (but not quite zero!) risk of a few isolated tornadoes overnight and perhaps into the early morning hours of Sunday. Tropical Storm Barry continues to weaken this evening as the center continues to move northward over Louisiana. The outer rain bands have been occasionally producing brief, spin-up tornadoes – and that will be our concern overnight. You can see the projected radar off the 3km North American Model showing occasional showers and thunderstorms across our area tonight and on Sunday. Have a way to get the warnings overnight! Here’s what you need to know this evening before you go to sleep…

TORNADO RISK REMAINS VERY LOW, BUT NOT QUITE ZERO… Vast majority of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will have occasional showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms tonight, but most of us WON’T have tornado issues. If we happen to have any tornadoes in our local area, odds are they will occur over west Alabama, somewhere east of the Alabama River. That is where the greater wind shear values are this evening stretching back over southern Mississippi and into Louisiana closer to the center of a decaying Tropical Storm Barry.

NO DAMAGE REPORTED FROM EARLIER TORNADO WARNING… Parts of Escambia (FL), Escambia (AL), western Conecuh, and eastern Monroe counties were under a tornado warning earlier today. We provided our live, uninterrupted video coverage on Facebook Live and in the RedZone Weather app. I’m thrilled to report this evening that we have yet to receive any reports of damage. We had a LOT of photos of shelf clouds and creepy clouds near the storm and I CERTAINLY appreciate each person taking the time to send those in. It is extraordinarily helpful to have “ground truth” views from across the region. That is why we designed the “Share” tab of the RedZone Weather app – for situations just like this so we can verify images coming in from across the region.

MORE STORMS LIKELY ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON & EVENING… Occasional showers and thunderstorms will continue tonight, Sunday morning, with more storms likely to fire up on Sunday afternoon and evening. The overall severe weather risk starting Sunday late morning will be much lower as the better dynamics lift to the north and west of the area as Barry moves away. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s on Sunday.

BACK TO “SUMMER NORMAL” ON MONDAY… We return to a 30-40% chance of P.M. showers and thunderstorms on Monday into Tuesday as our weather pattern returns what we’re accustomed to in the summertime around our region. High temperatures will rise into the 90s by Tuesday with morning lows staying constant in the mid-70s.

INVEST 93L UPDATE… The tropical disturbance in the middle of the Atlantic between the Lesser Antilles and Africa has dissipated. The National Hurricane Center has revised development odds down to 0% over the next 5 days. It’s almost that time of year when we will need to closely monitor each tropical wave that emerges from Africa. I won’t be surprised if we see more tropical waves that flare up in the weeks ahead in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean.

UPDATES OVERNIGHT AS NEEDED… I’ll have intermittent updates overnight and into Sunday morning in the RedZone Weather app. This will be my last update on Facebook this evening UNLESS we happen to have a tornado warning in our local area. redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the free RedZone Weather app.

Have a great evening!
