RAIN CLEARS OUT TODAY; STREAK OF DRY, SUNNY, COOL DAYS AHEAD… We transition from a wet, unsettled pattern to a dry, cool pattern today as the last of the rain clears out over the next few hours. The streak of drier, cooler weather we’ve been advertising for several days finally arrives tomorrow (Wednesday). Clouds will likely hang tough today, tonight, and into Wednesday morning but the last of the rain should be gone from our area by 4PM today. It has been QUITE some time since our area had a prolonged streak of drier weather. Wednesday through Monday of the upcoming week look dry, cool, and seasonal for late February into early March. Our next chance (after today) happens a week from today on Tuesday, March 3, but details about that event remain questionable since it is approximately one week out. That is your summary, below are all of the details.

CLOUDS STICK AROUND THROUGH THIS EVENING… Today will be the “transition day” between the wetter and drier patterns. Most of the rain should be well to our east by midday, but there could be a few lingering showers into the afternoon and early evening hours. High temperatures on this Tuesday will peak in the upper-60s across inland areas of south Alabama and near 70° closer to the coast. Clouds are set to linger into the evening and overnight hours. We should begin to see some breaks in the clouds very early on Wednesday morning.

COOLER WITH MORE SUNSHINE ON WEDNESDAY… After a cold front passes by later today, cool, drier air will filter into our region from the northwest. This will cause temperatures to be a bit cooler on Wednesday. Afternoon highs drop back into the low-60s with partly cloudy skies expected throughout the day. Temperatures will be in the 40s Wednesday night, falling to the 38-41° range by daybreak on Thursday morning.

SUNNY AND QUIET THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY… Yes indeed, the dry, quiet weather pattern many have been longing for really takes hold of our weather pattern on Thursday. High temperatures on Thursday will only be in the mid- to upper-50s ahead of potentially near freezing temperatures by Friday morning. Temperatures this weekend are set to be seasonal with highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s each morning. Mostly sunny skies are expected Thursday through Sunday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE A WEEK FROM TODAY… We’re never TOO far from our next rain chance, although I know many folks are excited about the break from the rain. Early indications point to our next rain chance happening late in the evening hours of Monday into Tuesday (March 3), one week from today. It is too early to know whether severe weather issues will be possible, although March 1 is generally regarded as the first day of primary severe weather season across the Deep South. Any time a cold front approaches over the next 2 months, we will need to monitor parameters closely for a severe weather potential. I’ll keep you posted about it all in the RedZone Weather app.

RAIN GRADUALLY MOVING EAST… Areas of rain continue pushing eastward this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. There have been very few lightning strikes involved with this large mass of rain. I expect more showers to continue at times overnight.

No severe weather is expected. Rain will clear out during the daytime hours of Tuesday.

SCATTERED SHOWERS CONTINUE… Showers continue to increase in coverage across south Alabama and northwest Florida as of 2PM. The heaviest rain at the moment is happening near Evergreen, Lenox, Castleberry, and Owassa along the I-65 corridor between Exits 77 and 107. These storms are moving northeast, basically paralleling the interstate.

BROADLY ROTATING STORM OFFSHORE… Storms currently in progress about 30 miles southwest of Destin and Fort Walton Beach have been broadly rotating over the last hour or so. There could be a waterspout or two in progress in these storms. I expect an overall weakening trend as this area of storms approaches southern Okaloosa County within the next hour or so.

RAIN IS LIKELY TODAY INTO TUESDAY MORNING; STREAK OF DRY DAYS AHEAD… Plenty of rain is set to happen late this morning through this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. There could be isolated areas of heavy rain, although I expect light to moderate rain to be the more common theme today. The Storm Prediction Center continues to include all of our local area in their “General Thunderstorms” zone, meaning there is no formal risk of severe weather in place today. Simply put, you may hear a clap of thunder or two before the end of the day, but I am not expecting hazardous weather. Rain will likely linger into tonight and into Tuesday morning before clearing out by Tuesday afternoon. We have a streak of sunny, cool, DRY days ahead starting on Wednesday! This will be the longest streak of dry days we’ve had in quite some time as Wednesday through Monday are expected to be dry. Let’s look at your forecast details.

RAIN CHANCES PEAK THIS AFTERNOON… Rain will be falling in many places across our region this afternoon into this evening. The greatest chance of rain will happen from 10AM to 6PM. Rain will likely linger well into the night, especially for areas along, south, and east of Interstate 65.

SHOWERS TUESDAY A.M. & COLD FRONT PASSES TUESDAY AFTERNOON… The last of the rain until next week happens Tuesday morning. Rain will gradually taper off from west to east late Tuesday morning. A cold front will move through our area on Tuesday afternoon, knocking down temperatures from near 70° to the upper-50s by 8PM. Clouds will likely stick around until the very early morning hours of Wednesday.

DRIER, COOLER WEATHER STARTS WEDNESDAY… Arguably the number one question I’ve had lately is, “When will we get a streak of nice, dry days?” I’m glad to say that starts Wednesday! Mostly sunny skies are expected Wednesday with high temperatures in the low- to mid-60s. In addition to the sunny days, winter makes its potential last stand with overnight lows expected to be in the 30s Thursday through Sunday mornings.

NICE, SUNNY END TO THE WEEK… Full sunshine is expected on both Thursday and Friday. High temperatures will be near 60° each day with morning lows in the 30s. A large dome of high pressure will be in control of our local weather pattern, meaning finally we get a break from the rain and a break from active weather!

DRY, COOL WEEKEND UPCOMING… There could be a few passing clouds on Saturday, but overall, I’m expecting Saturday and Sunday to be mostly sunny with temperatures in their seasonal range for this time of year. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-60s with morning lows in the mid-30s.
