HARD FREEZE LIKELY THIS WEEKEND; WIND CHILL VALUES MAY BE IN 10s SAT. MORNING… Saturday and Sunday mornings will be quite cold with air temperatures in the low- to mid-20s. Saturday morning will likely feature wind chill values in the upper-10s across inland stretches of south Alabama. If you’re planning to be outside or hunting Saturday morning, bundle up big time! Highs on Saturday will not get out of the 40s. Another very cold night is ahead on Sunday, albeit probably with less wind. Temperatures will again dip into the low- to mid-20s by daybreak Sunday morning.

COLD FRONT TO MOVE BY FRIDAY MORNING… Our next weather system slated to move by our region is a cold front currently situated well to our north. This frontal boundary will cross our region on Friday morning, ushering in colder air and paving the way for the hard freeze setting up this weekend. While I cannot completely rule out a few rain showers Friday during the daytime hours, most spots will likely remain dry.

PATTERN CHANGE NEXT WEEK… After being in the “ice box” this weekend, next week looks to be slightly warmer with high temperatures in the 60s. Morning lows will likely be in the 40s. That is a bit more seasonal and the range of temperatures we expect climatologically for this time of year. Rain will become likely by the middle of next week, although it is far too early for details or to know if severe weather issues will be a concern.

My next full forecast video and text discussion will be posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. Have a nice evening!

MOSTLY SUNNY & COOL TODAY; HARD FREEZE LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… Keep those jackets handy today as temperatures will only top out in the mid-50s. Clouds will continue to move out today, giving way to mostly sunny skies by the end of the day. More sunshine is expected Thursday ahead of a few showers becoming possible on Friday. I don’t expect every community across the local area to have rain on Friday, but a few widely scattered rain showers will be possible. Much colder air moves in from the north on Friday night and Saturday is expected to feature high temperatures in the 40s. Overnight lows on Saturday night into Sunday will likely be in the low-20s. Temperatures will begin to moderate as we get into early next week. A few more Wednesday morning forecast notes are below.

MORE SUNSHINE TOMORROW… Mostly sunny skies are likely tomorrow (Thursday) with high temperatures likely to be a bit warmer than today. Most spots will top out in the upper-50s and near 60. Cloud coverage will increase tomorrow night into early Friday morning ahead of our next rain chance.

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE FRIDAY… A cold front will move across our local area on Friday. A few showers may become possible ahead of this frontal boundary. Temperatures will peak in the mid-50s Friday ahead of much colder temperatures on Saturday. We note that severe weather issues are not expected Friday with the passage of the cold front.

SHARPLY COLDER ON SATURDAY… Temperatures will be quite cold on Saturday morning with most communities dipping below freezing. Highs on Saturday will be in the 40s across the region with an abundant supply of sunshine.

HARD FREEZE LIKELY SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING… Overnight lows on Sunday morning will be in the low-20s in many communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida. A Hard Freeze Warning will be needed on Saturday night into Sunday for many local counties. There is a chance some communities north of US84 may briefly dip into the upper-10s. The north wind on Saturday will lessen somewhat as we go into the evening hours, but any wind will mean wind chill values could easily dip into the upper-10s in many spots locally.

SLIGHTLY WARMER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… We finally see some evidence that temperatures will moderate somewhat as we go into early next week. High temperatures will be in the 60s by Monday with overnight lows around the 40 degree mark early next week.

SHOWERS LIKELY BEFORE NOON; SUNNY, COOL DAYS AHEAD… Rain will continue to be possible over the next several hours as an area of low pressure continues to slide by our area to the south. High temperatures on this Tuesday will be in the mid-50s. Temperatures will decline into the 30s overnight. Most spots will have overnight lows in the low- to mid-30s by daybreak on Wednesday. Some locales north of US84 may dip to near or just below the freezing mark tomorrow morning. Clouds will clear out overnight, giving way to sunny skies on Wednesday. Our next rain chance happens on Friday as a cold front moves across the region. Saturday night looks to be quite cold with a chance of temperatures dipping into the low-20s. A few more Tuesday forecast notes are below.

RAIN MOVES OUT LATER TODAY… Showers will continue to move east over the next several hours. Most of the local area will likely be dry by 3PM. Thunderstorms will continue to be confined to the northern Gulf of Mexico as there basically is no surface-based instability to support thunderstorms across land areas today. High temperatures will be in the mid-50s today.

MAINLY SUNNY ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY… Seasonal, cool weather is ahead for Wednesday and Thursday with mostly sunny skies expected each day. High temperatures will be in the 50s with morning lows in the 30s.

RAIN POSSIBLE FRIDAY; COLD AIR MOVES IN SATURDAY… A few widely scattered showers will be possible on Friday as a cold front approaches our area from the north. Highs on Friday will be in the 50s. Much colder air moves in on Friday night into Saturday. Overnight lows by Saturday morning will be in the mid- to upper-20s.

HARD FREEZE POSSIBLE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY… The coldest night of the week will likely be Saturday night into Sunday morning. Overnight lows will likely be in the low- to mid-20s in many spots with temperatures below freezing for 10-12 hours. If this scenario verifies, it would qualify as a “hard freeze.” A Hard Freeze Watch (and subsequently a Hard Freeze Warning) will likely be needed for Saturday night, if forecast trends continue.
