THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND THIS WEEKEND; SCATTERED STORMS TONIGHT… Scattered thunderstorms will move northeast across the region on this Friday. No severe weather issues are expected today, other than the ongoing potential for flash flooding where rain and storms continually train over the same areas today. Friday Night Lights could be wet this evening in several locales. More rain and storms will be possible at times this weekend. Rain chances will remain elevated as we go into next week. I’ve got all of your Friday forecast notes below.
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL FORECAST… If you’re headed to a high school football game across south Alabama or northwest Florida this evening, make sure to keep the umbrellas handy or at least in the car nearby. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible. Not every community will have rain in progress when most of the games are kicking off at 7PM and 7:30PM but there will be some locales with rain around. Rain could be heavy at times. Kickoff temperatures will be in the 77-80° range, falling into the mid-70s by the end of the games.
SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS AROUND THIS WEEKEND… Scattered thunderstorms are likely on both Saturday and Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will be most numerous in the afternoon and evening hours each day. High temperatures are expected to be in the mid-80s this weekend with morning lows in the low-70s.
MORE RAIN AT TIMES DURING THE COMING WEEK; NO MAJOR PATTERN SHIFT (YET)… Scattered storms will continue to be a fixture of the forecast as we go into the upcoming week. I see no major pattern shift
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE MOVING INTO CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center continues to note a tropical wave entering the eastern Caribbean Sea near the Lesser Antilles has a 20-30% chance of becoming a named tropical storm over the next 5 days. This tropical wave is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms this morning across the southern part of the Lesser Antilles. The tropical wave will move into the central Caribbean Sea by Sunday into Monday where conditions are marginally more favorable for further development. Some of the major global weather models highlight the potential for a tropical storm to form in the western Caribbean Sea around 4-5 days from now. Something to watch, but nothing to stress over at this point. I will have updates on this system throughout the weekend, as needed.
TROPICS: TROPICAL DISTURBANCE MOVING INTO ATLANTIC FROM AFRICA… A tropical wave has emerged from the African continent into the eastern Atlantic Ocean. This tropical wave is producing occasional showers and thunderstorms across parts of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system will move westward in the days ahead, likely reaching the Lesser Antilles or perhaps just north of there, in about one week. Development into a named tropical storm may happen early next week as the system moves west across the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
See all the details in your Friday morning #rzw forecast video. I will have updates posted today and into the weekend as needed in the RedZone Weather app.
