SUNNY THURSDAY; RAIN & A FEW STORMS SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY; UPDATE ON SNOW RUMORS… Sunny skies are likely across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday with high temperatures in the upper 50s inland and low 60s closer to the coast. Dry conditions are expected today, tomorrow, and Saturday ahead of our next chance of rain and perhaps a few thunderstorms on Sunday night into early Monday. We’re also looking ahead to very cold temperatures next week that COULD (and I stress the word: *could*) potentially support the formation of some wintry mischief across parts of the Deep South. There remain many more questions than answers at this point about the potential for snow across the Deep South and IF snow will even happen.

COOL DAYS, COLD NIGHTS INTO THE WEEKEND… Highs will be in the upper 50s further inland with 60s likely closer to the coast in the afternoon hours today, tomorrow, and Saturday. Overnight lows will be in the mid 30s tonight with lows at or just below the freezing mark on Friday into Saturday. Clouds increase in coverage on Saturday night, meaning temperatures won’t fall as much on Saturday night. Overnight lows will be in the 40s and 50s by Sunday morning.

SHOWERS & A FEW STORMS POSSIBLE SUNDAY INTO EARLY MONDAY… Severe storms will be possible to our west during the daytime hours of Sunday, specifically in parts of east Texas, Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and western Mississippi. The area of rain and thunderstorms associated with the advancing cold front will continue to move eastward Sunday evening into the overnight hours. Showers and storms will be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida Sunday into early Monday. For now, the overall risk of severe storms seems rather low across our region. This is something I will be carefully monitoring over the next few days.

VERY COLD TEMPS ARRIVE NEXT WEEK… This will be the coldest period of the winter season so far with highs set to be in the mid 40s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will be in the 20s with wind chill values in the 10s being possible.

SNOW OR NO SNOW? THAT IS THE QUESTION… We are now within 7-8 days of the potential for some “winter mischief” across the Deep South. Global models continue to suggest that an area of low pressure will develop to our west across Texas and move to the east. Where will this area of low pressure specifically move and how will it interact with cold air to the north? Some models have suggested snow and mixed precipitation being possible as far south as south Alabama and northwest Florida. Other models have suggested we will have a cold rain. For now, it remains too early to know ANY concrete details. I suspect we will continue to have wavering ideas until early next week. By then, we should have a decent idea if snow will be a real probability.
