HIGHS ONLY IN MID 40s TODAY; VERY COLD NIGHT AHEAD; UPDATE ON RAIN/SNOW FRIDAY… Skies will become sunny on this Tuesday but temperatures won’t get out of the 40s in many spots across the region. High temperatures inland will be in the low 40s with upper 40s likely closer to the immediate coast. Keep those thick jackets handy throughout the day and certainly into this evening. Temperatures will drop into the 30s just after sunset with most spots dropping below the freezing mark by 9-10PM. Wind chill values could easily be in the 10s again overnight. This brutally cold air mass will continue to be in place across our region through Thursday. Our next chance of rain happens on Friday, and all of the precipitation locally in south Alabama and northwest Florida will likely happen in the form of rain. The rain/mix/snow line will likely be to our north across parts of central or north Alabama.
DRY FEW DAYS AHEAD; VERY COLD TEMPS… No rain or precipitation is expected across south Alabama or northwest Florida through Thursday morning. High temperatures will consistently be in the 40s over the next several days with morning lows in the 20s. Temperatures will be below freezing each night through Thursday morning.
RAIN ON FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY; SNOW TO THE NORTH… Good news or bad news, depending on if you’re rooting for snow or not. It looks like the rain/mix/snow line will set up well to the north of south Alabama and northwest Florida. The higher probability of snow with this event will happen in the northern counties of north Alabama, generally along and north of U.S. Highway 278. This means places like Huntsville, Muscle Shoals, Florence, Ft. Payne, and Decatur have the highest snow probabilities in Alabama. Snow is also expected across parts of northern Mississippi, Tennessee, and northern Georgia. Mixed precipitation is expected in a corridor from Interstate 20 and points north in Alabama, potentially including near places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Cullman, Jasper, and Gadsden. The southern part of Alabama along with northwest Florida will simply have a cold rain on Friday. No severe thunderstorms are expected with this passing system later this week.
